Metsker, died In this city Saturday af ternoon, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Boehmer, at the age of 61 years, says the Baker City Democrat. The deceased was a well known rancher and stockman, was born December S, 1845, and came to Baker county 33 years ago. Ho says. Jokingly, that he Is opposed to having Sumpter and West End Baker whiskies get mixed as they always breed disturb ance. Seriously he says that a drunken passenger generally wants to wander about the coaches and thus becomes a nuisance and a source of worry to the crew to see that he does not get Injured. Sobriety will be nec essary hereafter If you expect to leave Sumpter. Wood Shortage In Mines. Zoeth Houser spent several days last week and this out at the Present Need and the Gold Issue properties In the Quartzburg district, says the Sumpter American. He says that he has been keeping two forces of men busy and that the showings made are quite satisfactory. The handicap out that way for the winter work, accord ing to him, will be in the shortage of wood supply as the people usually re lied upon to cut It up have occupied themselves otherwise during the sum mer months.
