THIS TELLS THE STORY Eilers Piano House is the Place That Saves Piano Buyers Money Extravagant assertions to the contrary notwith standing, there is but one place in Pendleton that is in a position to sell and is selling the very choicest high-class pianos for less money that can be obtained elsewhere. Dealers who have to get their instruments on consignment from San Francisco houses, or have to pay a royalty to jobbers on every instrument they sell, can not possibly hope to furnish the values in pianos that can be obtained at Eilers Piano House. Over 100 residents of Pendleton and vicinity have purchased pianos of us in the last few months, What does this mean? It means that the people, nearly all of whom are business men and women, have each saved at least 550 to $100 by purchasing from us. Yes, it means more than that. It means that we are doing ex actly what we stated in our advertisements selling nstruments of known value and standing at prices heretofore unheard of, and at figures with which the ordinary little dealer or. agent cannot possibly hope to compete. We have announced and explained many times heretofore why we are able to do this. Never before have we displayed such a large as sortment in up-to-date styles in high-grade pianos as we now have on our floors. We take old instruments in exchange and allow a liberal valuation just now, while there is a big demand with us for them. We make terms of payment, to suit you. Eilers Piano House 813 MAIN STREET. In this city as one of the principals In one of the most unique contests that has ever been jeen In a so-called arid region, says the Cheyenne Tribune. Another engine Is on Its way to Cheyenne and early next week will be gin a series of plowing contests to de termine to the satisfaction of Wyom Ing dry farmers the superiority of the rival plow operators. The engine that arrived today Is from Reeves & Co. of Denver, and Is In charge of Expert Olinger of that city. The engine Is expected to pull a disc plow 16 feet wide through sod to a depth of eight Inches and harrow the plowed ground at the same time with four sections of steel harrows. Mr. Olinger, backed by the Reeves people, says that their disc plow Is the only plow that will do this work with the same motive power and It Is also claimed that the disc plow leaves the unplowed ground below in better con dition for the absorption of water under the dry farming system. The other contestant Is P. A. Jones of Pierce, Col., who Is bringing up a 25-horse power J. I. Case engine and who will use the well known mould board gang plow. Mr. Jones says that his outfit will do as good or better work than all the disc plows In cre ation and says that he Is prepared to prove his assertion. Mr. Jones has bi en operating a gang plow under power for a number of years In north ern Colorado and Is confident that he has the best equipment obtainable. Tne rival plowmen were brought to gether through the efforts of Dr. V. T. Cooke, who has been In charge of the dry farming operations near Chey enne and who has also done a remark able work in arousing Interest among the ranchmen of the county In the dry farming movement. The plowing contest will take place i on the "Model Farm," east of town and will be watched with great Inter est by not only Cheyenne people, but the owners of extensive range land In the county who are planning to put large acreages into cultivation under the dry farming system as well as ranchmen' who will Increase their acreage for cultivation under Irriga tion. The demonstrations made through out Laramie county during the past two seasons have convinced many ranchmen that they can raise crops more valuable than the prairie grasses on their ranges by dry farm ing and the problem of plowing has become a serious one as from all over the county and in western Nebraska have come queries from ranchmen asking how they can get lands plowed at reasonable prices. The success of Dr. Cooke in secur ing a practical demonstration of the work of two outfits which are able to undertake contracts for the plowing of extensive tracts In a large measure solves the problem and opens to own ers of unimproved land a way to put their holdings into what Is certain to be profitable cultivation. Eagles' Hall, Friday, Oct. 26 A Treat to the Music Lovers of Pendleton. The Greatest Musical Event of the Season. Come and Enjoy Evening of Grand Opera. Admission 25c, all over the House. ( From San Francisco Chronicle. ) While every music house in Sa;i fifiicisco has lately adopted u tarn-1-aisn of aggression where It hetaiii. customary to attract the attention ot ihe public by means of advertisements whieh fnif.ed themselves Into atten tion bv reason of the extraordinary in lucements offered, the firm of Sher man, Clay &'Co. remained conserva tive and permitted all these inoderi methods to pass by without as much as a side glance. While some of tha houes advertised high-grade pianos at "sensationally low figures"; while others tempted the public bv wonder ful in. lucements ot Installment sales , allowing as much as $100 on the firs', payment, while again others Inau gurated piano clubs and. word con tests, all of which endeavored to Im press the reader that he was receiving something for nothing, the firm of Sherman, Clay Co. remained faith ful to Its well known principle of con servatism. It Is. Indeed, Interesting to watch the' policy of this house. As Is well known, Sherman, Cluy ft Co. has. as Its leader the Stelnway piano. This Instrument Is simply placed by the firm upon a pedestal and pointed out as something superior as something better than anything else In the estab llshmeut. There Is no reduction on a Stelnway. There are no cut prices on that Instrument. If any induce ments are glvjen In the way of Install ments they are not such as to Inter fere with the established price of the Instrument, but the patron Is made to understand that in being enabled to obtain a Stelnway by the Installment method he thereby obtains such great advantages as to put all discounts and cash allowances on other pianos In the shade. In this manner Sherman. Clay & Cc. simply put a fence around the Stelnway and the public is not foath to adopt the firm's respect and admiration for this favored Instru ment. This goes to show hov a piano hou.ie may assist In giving an Instru ment an unassailable position In the trade, and I do not doubt that the methods n which the Stelnway Is handled has largely contributed to tho standing It possesses among artists and musicians. When Snerman, Clay ft Co. had concluded their Important combination with Lyon ft Healey, of Chicago, they never used this move as food for sensational advertising. A rport setting forth the action taken between the two houses was sent to tile eastern trade press, and the local papers were merely asked to repro duce these reports verbatim without a single syllable being added by Sher man, Clay ft Co. The reproduction of these reports was followed by an exhibition of Lyon & Healey brass Instruments In the show windows of the firm, and tho matter was dropped Immediately after all the dealers on the coast had been notified of the Im portant move. It wa all done .In such n dignified way nnd without the least bit of sensational ostentation that It raised the estimation in which the firm waa always held.
