OREGON HORSES GO 10 GEORGIA C ARLOAD SHIPPED TO AT LANTA LAST night. Cost of Transporting the Cur I'nm Pendleton to Atlanta Will I to $373 111 Addition to the High Priced Feed Consumed nt 10 Points Along the Route .Southern Market Is Good and Oilier Shipments) Will lie Sent Out of Oregon. The fame of the Oregon horse, like brook, goes on forever and every day opens up new markets for that ani mal and brings Into Oregon buyers from new quarters. Last night a carload of horses left this city destined for Atlanta, Qa., a distance of about 2800 miles, follow ing -the torturous route of the rail lines from Pendleton to that city. The hlpment was made by J. A. Arnold of Atlanta, and consisted of 20 Jiorses and two colts, one carload, which was sent out over the O. R. & N. The cost of shipping the carload to Atlanta will be about 1375 for transportation alone, and In addition he must feed high priced hay at about 10 points on the Journey. He expects to Bell the horses In At lanta at a good profit and If he !s successful with this shipment he will return to Pendleton In the spring for more. The horse market In Georgia and other southern states is very good and he declares that even with the high prices' of horses here and the enormous cost of shipping them al most 3000 miles, there Is yet a good profit In the business. Mr.. Arnold is a typical southerner and Is greatly Interested In the rapid development of the west, and also In the customs and methods of doing business In this country. However, he was somewhat alarmed at the wild horses which were offered for sale. He feared that he would be unable to domesticate them, but after seeing' several exhibitions of wild west "bron cho busting" In the stock yards, he decided to risk one shipment of un broke horses. The United States will probably lose Its own con tract to furnish postage stamps which It has held for I'i years. The bids of the American Uank Note company, of New York, were much lower for all stnmns. If awarded the New York concern It means a loss of employ ment to hundreds In the government service. It Is said the private con cern will got labor much cheaper than the itenle paid hy the government. Notice. To Whom It May Concern: My wife, Christina K. Mr. Nolte says that several months ago he let Mr. Sewell's brother have a small amount of money, and that this transaction has evidently ben mixed up with W. J. Sewell's departure from the city.
