lnke.
The work Is under the management
of Barzllla W. Clark of Mackny and
James (). Morgan of Blackfoot; Clark
is a brother of Worth Clark of Poca
tello. Clark mnilo the original filings
and disponed of hnlf Interest to Mor
gan. The plnn Is to drain Cray's lake
Into Goose lake, thence Into the Black
foot river, construct a canal about 10
miles from Blackfoot city, where the
water will be tnken out for the pur
pose of reclaiming 26.000 acres that
hnve been filed on under the Carey
act.
The total aren of Gray's lake Is
about 68.000 acres, and nn Island In
the center takes up nbout 20.000.
About 40.000 acres are now covered
with wnter. Draining the lake will
reclnlm about 20.000 acres of swamp
land now surrounding the lake, upon
whlho the parties Interested have
filed for n reservoir site, fioose Ifke
Is 10 mill's wide and IS miles long,
being an average depth of from six to
10 feet, forming a natural reservoir.
The proposed plan Is simple, and con
sists of the digging of n canal 250
feet long, 20 feet deep, nnd 60 feet
wide, to follow natural waterways to
the place where the wnteTvlll lie dis

There Is a great scarcity of hop-
plckcrs this year, and the situation
this morning appears alarming. Some
of tho growers in the Selah valley and
Moxee who began picking early this
year are only paying $1 per box, but
with the announcement of the raise
in the price, the probabilities are that
these yards will also have to meet the
price pall by many of the leading hop

take care of the shipments on this side
