BR' freshmen. 01: mid year etas. 44 All .Indents are classified according to the number of credits earned rerardl?ss of the time they hav, been In attendance. This furnishes an absolutely fair test of the students' ability and Is the system In use at Harvard and other large universities. By this plan bright student may complete hl course In three or three and one half years, while the Blower student may have four or even five years. Heretofore student enterprises have been the work of the students alone, but beginning with this semester the faculty committees will co-operate with them In all such work, thus forming a closer union betwiecn stu dents and Instructors. I Two New Movements. In addition ot the splendid work done by our debating clubs and liter ary societies the Pendleton high school has taken the Initiative In two very Important matters, namely: a state debating league and a state high school athletic league. Uniform re quirements in class work, morals and training are some of the things which will be discussed and adopted by these leagues. There will probably be an eastern and a western division of each n'a'e league and the winners of these two divisions will contest for the state championship. The students manifest a good dispo sition, are willing workers, and in. tensely loyal to the faculty and the school, and for this reason It Is pre dicted that the school year which be gins next Monday will be a very promising one for old P. H. S. To Instruct an army of such young workers Is a noble, Inspiring task and we agree with President O. Stanley Hall, of Clark university: "There Is nothing In all the world that Is more worthy of love, of reverence, and of service, than the body and soul of a young child." 3. W. HUFF, Principal.
