About six weeks ago a full grown cougar was seen about two and one half miles southeast of Walla Walla, ,4 says the bulletin, and has ben roam ing around that portion of the coun ty ever since, making his appearance at Intervals to several persons In that vicinity. He first made his appearance on the farm of Mr. Zlno, where a dra matic scene ensued. Mrs. Zlno had her Infant child, 6 months old, In a hammock under a cherry tree, while she was attending to some duties around the premises when, happening to look In the direction of her child, she saw the cougar attempting to drag the baby from the hammock. With a wild scream of terror, she made a run for the scene, nnd grab bing up her offspring, she fled In ter ror Into the house. The animal did not appear to be at all alarmed, but walked away from the premises In a very deliberate manner, apparently very much disappointed at being balked In his efforts to mnke a meal off the baby. SOME KLICKITAT INCIDENTS. Compiled From Last Issue of Golden- dale Sentinel. Billy Frltts has sold a part of his ranch to parties from Pendleton; nlso 40 acres to Rufus Byrkett of this place, making In all about 80 acres sold; we understand the consideration was $2500 and 3S50. Trout Lake land Is not sold for a song. The Irrigation ditch, taken out of Lost creek and running through the Ice cave settlement, Is nearlng com pletion. This wa a big undertaking, considering the distance to bring the water, which Is about 30 miles; then. again, the work is being done mostly by the settlers .Interested, as they were unable to secure much outside labor which has been extremely dif ficult to secure this season. Trout Lake correspondence. I During the electrical storm the" I other day, one of Henry Garner's trawstacks was struck bv Hehtnlnir. 1 and set on fire. Several hundred sacks of wheat were endancered bv the fiames atld, had It not been for the timely arrival of Crocker's threshing crew, it would undoubtely have been destroyed.
