The healthy color of the skin is piven to it' by the millions of little ted corpuscles in the blood. These are the carriers of nourishment, health and strength to all parts of the body in other words the very life of the blood. When the genus of Malaria get into this vital fluid they destroy these corpuscles and rob the blood of its rich, lifes-ustaiiiing qualities, ren dering it thin, weak and watery and unaMe to supply the system with the needed strength to resist disease. Then the symptoms cf Malaria such as pale, sallow complexions, weak vitality, poor appetite, deranged digestion, a general "let down" condition of the system, and perhaps chills and slight fever, show that this insidious disease is gradually affecting the entire health. Malaria must be removed from the system through the circulation, and the medicine to accomplish this is S. S. S. It n,t only cleanses the blood of all Impure, unhealthy matter, but rids the system of Malaria, and restores the blood to a strong, healthy condition. S. S. S., besides removing the germs of Malaria, builds up and gives tone and vigor to the entire system by its fine tonic effects. Malaria is a blood discr.se, and S. S. S. cures it because it is a perfect blood purifier. Book on the blood and anv medical advice without charse. THE SWIFT SPCIF15 CO., A 7LANTA, GA. The dimensions are about 4x4tAxlVi Inches. The gem Is said to be only a por tion of r much larger stone, the orig inal size of which Is a matter of con lecture. Four pieces of the original have been broken off aiong cleavage planes, which are known to have the position of octahedral planes. Each of these fragments were undoubtedly of considerable size. The stone, according to the descrip tion given bv experts, is quite color less. It perfect transparence being best compared to that of pure Ice of the variety known as hyalite. It has been Impossible to find a turcnaser at the appraised value, as no one cares about parting with mil lions Just for the honor of porsesslng a stone that would keep their lives In deadly peril. ( When Mr.' Vilder was In England a few months ago, he was attracted by the pureness of the gem and as a result succeeded In organizing a syn dlcate which bid for an option at the agreed price of 12.000.000. The option does not expire for several months as yet, and It would be no surprise to learn any day that the final transfer had been made and the stone trans- ferred to the United States. WALLA WALLA DOOMED. General I'nnston Says No Brigade Post for Garden City. Gene-al Funston while stopping at the Portland hotel was Interlewed by a reporter for the Bulletin regarding the possibility of the establishment of a brigade post in Walla Walla: Impossible," exclaimed the gener al. "I recommended the abandonment of Fort Walla Walla two years ago, but owing to local pressure on the government the post was retained. Since new barracks have been built I do not think It likely that the gov ernment will dispose of Its present quarters at Walla Walla, but when you speak of a brigade post I can positively stute that such a thing Is altogether out of the question." "Where Is It likely to bo establish ed?" the general was asked. "At American Lake. There we have 70,000 acres for target practice, unlimited display and maneuver grounds that cannot be surpessed. An acre of that land could be bought at the low figure of $10 per acre and the government could make no better Investment. Walla Walla has no grounds, the roads are so muddy In winter that Colonel Godfrey told me he was unable to exercise his troops during three months. Then again In summer It Is too hot and altogether the Idea is preposterous. But It does not follow that the present post will be abandoned." General Greely, also stopping at the Portland, fully agreed with these views and deplored political Interfer ence In the military management of this country. Read the East Oregonlan.
