The fastest running time ever re corded with a train on the La Qrande Huntington' division of the O. R. & N was made Sunday morning by En gineer Al Runke with " engine 197, pulling the Elks' special train en route to the grand lodge at Denver. He made the 100 miles from La Grande to Huntington, Including two stops, In two hours and 10 minutes. While this Is not considered fust time on a level road devoid ot curves, It is the fastest time on record on that division. The Short Line expect ed to heat the record over the level divisions between Huntington and Po catello, but did not do so. Conductor Fred Wuffle, of this city, was In charge of the train from Pen. dleton to Huntington. Yakima Road ami Bridge Contractu. The county commissioners and state highway commissioner, Snow, let the contract today for the building of the state road to Bumping Lake and also for the two bridges across the Naches river. Charles E. Lum, of this city, was the successful bidder on the road. The. bridge contracts were let to the Northwest Bridge company of Seat tie. The approximate cost of the state road will be In the neighborhood of $10,000. while the two bridges will cost together $4725. One bridge is at the Mahaffy ford and the other at An derson's crossing.
