Baker county wool fell upon a poor market In this city, when at the Hlackburn & Brcck warehouse the aheeptnen offered their clips to the highest bidder. Sealed bids were used In the attempted sales, but In spite of the large quantity of fered and the quality of the wool, which the local men claim Is better than anything offered for some time past, there was nothing doing In the market this morning. Buyers offered from 18', 4 to 19V4 cents for the wool shown but found no takers. The bids wore not spirited because of the unstable market In the east, and but a few of 10 buyers present were Interested In the bidding. It was stated by one of the buyers who was not active, that more than half of them had received wires from their houses to keep out of the mar ket today. Offers made jvoro refused one af ter another during the entire sale, and every bid was rejected during the morning, not a pound changing hands. The sellers for the most part were disgusted with the offers, and up to noon held back, holding out. It was confidently stated, for 20 cents. There were nbout 700,000 pounds of wool In Baker today, not quite half of the amount In linker county. This was divided up, the bulk being In the Blackburn & Breck warehouse, while Miles Lee and others united In a con siderable offering, and the Heilncrs also hud some woo on hands. .la i si ii 1 false I lour Tariff. The organization of the Umattllar County Agricultural Fair association which was begun over a year ago, was completed at a mass meeting held1 at the Commercial association parlors last evening. In pursuance to a call Issued by s committee consisting of Mayor James A. Fee. J. W. Maloney. G. M. Rice ana W. L. Thompson, a meeting was held last evening, the purpose of which was to perfect the organization form ed shortly after the bill creating ths Third Eastern Oregon District Agri cultural Fair association, comprising Umatilla and Morrow counties, was passed by the Oregon legislature. This committee was appointed at that tim to have direction of the organization, and owing to the fact that the Lewis and Clark fair was held last year, the association postponed action until later. The association wa9 formally launched last evening. Leon Cohen, president of the Commercial associa tion, was elected president and H. C Willis secretary of the association, and after a discussion of the various phases of the matter three members of the commission authorized by the bill were elected as follows: Leon Cohen, C. E. Roosevelt and Le Teutsch. Governor Chamberlain has already appointed three members of the com mission, consisting of George A. Hart man and Frank Frazler, of this comi ty, and W. O. Minor, of Heppner. Morrow county will organise at once and elect one member of the com mission, and the fair board will then be composed of the three members elected by the Umatilla county asso ciation, one by the Morrow county association and the three appointed, by the governor. .
