Many of the farmers are .already working every spare minute to rid themselves of the weed, but some al low the weed to flourish. Edwall (Wash.) Press. Wool Sales In Kittitas. The first sales of wool In Kittitas county are reported thlB week. ; J. H. Smlthson disposed of his clip of 87, 000 pounds to Frederick Joslyn of thine city. He made the purchase for S. Huntington & Co. of this city. The price paid Is understood to be In the neighborhood of 20 cents. At that figure the clip bdought Smithson the sum of $17,400. J. C. Lloyd has also sold his clip, conxintlng of 90,000 pounds, to the buyers of tho Botany Worsted mills of Boston. The price paid for this wool has not been quoted, but it Is around the 20-cent mark. There are a number of clips In that county that have not yet been sold. The wool of Yakima county hns been clenned u; for this season. Yukiina Repub Ic. 1 10,000 Itnncli Kohl. J. W. Peck the Moxee has sold his farm for $40,000. The purchasers are well known cnpltnllts of Spokane, who have bought the propirty for an Investment. Their names are John Pangfelder, James Durkln and Col. Wharton. The Peck ranch Is one of the finest farms In the Yuklni.i valley. It con sists of J60 ncr s amply watered from the sources of three artesian wells, and its principal production Is fruit, nlthouRh It also produces alfalfa hay. The place has a very nice residence upon It, a flno burn and numerous out houses. It Is situated about 12 miles from this city. Mr. Peck will ko back to Tacoma, from whence he came, to live. lie has been Identified with the Interests of Yakima county for a numlxr of years, nud Is one of Its most respected citizens. Lytic, was Instantly killed Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock by a tree blowing over on him at Mill A, about eight miles back of Cook's lutidlng. The little fellow was 10 years of age and was playing In the woods near the mill with two other boys, Lester Sayre and Irwin Miller. Irwin Miller wag struck by a limb and a severe gash cut In his head, but was not danger ously Injured. There was a teamster near at the time but the little fellow was dead when taken from under the tree. Hood River News-Letter. Xcx Peroo County Need Not Pay. The application for a writ of man date to the treasurer of Nes Perce county to compel him to pay the sum of $3414.29 toward the satisfaction of warrants drawn by Shoshone county was yesterday denied by the supreme court and the action dismissed. The petitioner was Prosecuting Attorney James E. Cljde of Shoshone county. This was the latest action growing out of the act of March 10, 1903, which provided for the annexation of a portion of Shoshone county to Nex Perce .county. Lewlston Tribune. Running Horse Race. The most Important horse race ever matched In this section was arranged In this city Tuesday between E. C. Herry of Wallowa, nnd James and Robert Elliott of this city. The race will be a one-fourth mile stretch for a $500 side bet. The contesting horses are Bcrry'B nay horse, "Dempscy," nnd the buckskin mare belonging to the Elliotts. The race will be pulled off July 2, either In this city or on the track at the fair grounds near Is land City. Elgin Recorder. Suicide by Drowning. Geort'e A. Munch of Alrownl, once an Inmate of the Medical Lake Insane asylum, wilfully plunged Into the Clearwater river at 5:30 o'clock yes terday morning, and before nld could reach him he sank nt a point near the confluence of the rivers. His body was never seen after It sank thj last time. His preparations were cool and deliberate and those who saw him thouKht that he was out for tho morn ing air. Lewlston Tribune. Cost Sloro to He Hurled. An nrtvance of 50 per cent has been made In practically nil undertakers' merchnndh'e during tho past six months. At the first of the year fan advance of 25 per cent was quoted, and during May the second advance of 25 per cent. The reason for tho advance has not been made known to tho undertakers, but It Is understood the advance quo tations have been mnde by the manu facturers of undertakers' supplies, and Jobbers have been compelled to ad vance their prices accordingly.
