It was decided that, beginning- with September, 1906, no student should take part In athletic contests for more than four seasons. This is what is known as the four-year rule, and Is the first time It has ever been adopted uy a university in the northwest. It was further decided that the foot ball schedule should be limited to six games during the season. The council agreed on a two years' contract with "Bill" Hayward as trainer of the track team. DEATH OP BARNEY CHOWNEH. Funeral Will Tuka Place Tomorrow Afternoon From tho Homo. Barney B. Crowner died at t o'clock last evening at his home 512 West Webb street, from the effects of stomach trouble, with which he had been suffering for some time The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the family home and will be under the auspices of the Woodmen of the World, the deceased being a member of the Pen dleton camp. The services at tho house will be conducted by Rev. Nel lor, pastor of the Congregational church. Barney Crowner was a native of Missouri and had been a resident of Umatilla county for 20 years. For about 16 years he lived at Meacham, and three years ago moved to a ranch three miles west of town. At his death he left a wife and five children. He also had five brothers and two sisters, all of whom are living In Pendleton. They are J. K. Crowner. T. I. Crown er, Ollle Crowner, J. H. Crowner, Qrover C. Crowner, Mrs. Leo Todd and Mrs. Clark Bets. Raised 9200 for Family. The friends and neighbors of Mar tin Markeson, whose homo on the river west of town, was burned a few days ago, have raised the sum of $200 In cash and provisions for the family. The flood a few days previous had drowned Markeson'a cows, chick ens and hogs, his team was stolen a few months ago, and the recent fire left the family almost destitute. Smith, the Implement dealer of this city, has sold 34 Holt combined harvesters In this county this season. besides a number In Gilliam county, Six machines have been unloaded In this city within the past week, six have been unloaded In Helix and de livered to the purchasers and a num oer more win De delivered within a few days. The combined capacity of these 34 machines is about 34,000 acres for the season. Stationary machines are be- ng replaced largely by the combined harvesters and soon Umatilla county wheat will be cut and threshed entire ly by the combined.
