Mrs. John Vnugtian, of this city, has
just returned from a month's visit in
Spokane and while there attended the
wedding of Miss Ellen Zahner, form
erly of this city, to Walter J. Downs,
of Spokane.
The wedding occurred at the home
of the bride's mother, at ill Third
avenue. Rev. W. D. Smith, of the
Presbyterian church, performed the
ceremony, only a few Intimate friends
being present. After a brief wed
ding trip Mr. and Mrs. Downs will be
at home at 1601 East Ninth stveet,

CONGREGATIONAL PROGRAM.
Indies' Aid and Prayer Meeting Are
the Mid-Week Gatherings.
The Ladles' Aid will meet at the
home of Mrs. Wlnslow Wednesday
afternoon at 2:30. It is the custom
of this society to meet every two
weeks, but on account of the regular
day for meeting falling on the FourtTa,
the meeting will be held this week
Instead. A cordial Invitation Is ex
tended to all.
Prayer meeting will be held In the
lecture room of the church Thursday
evening at 8 o'clock. Topic, "Jesus
and the Children." Matt. 18:1-14.

It was decided that, beginning- with
September, 1906, no student should
take part In athletic contests for more
than four seasons. This is what is
known as the four-year rule, and Is
the first time It has ever been adopted

It was further decided that the foot
ball schedule should be limited to six
games during the season.
The council agreed on a two years'
contract with "Bill" Hayward as
trainer of the track team.

At tbe last session of Eureka lodge,
O. O. F It was voted to offer their
splendid lodge room at the croner of
Main and Alta streets for the use of
visitors In the city on the Fourth of
July. The use of the room Is given
gratis, and a competent person will be
left In charge of the hall to attend to
the wants of the visitors.
As the Odd Fellows hall is large and
centrally located, It will be a valuable
addition to the list of rest places that
have been secured for the Fourth.

Rev. Cleveland Will Move.
Rev. H. C. Cleveland, who Is In
charge of the Congregational Sunday
school work In Unity and the sur
rounding country, stopped over night
Monday night In Pendleton, while on
his way to his home In Milton. He
will move his family to Unity about
July 1. The work he Is In charge of

Funeral Will Tuka Place Tomorrow

Barney B. Crowner died at t
o'clock last evening at his home 512
West Webb street, from the effects
of stomach trouble, with which he
had been suffering for some time
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock
tomorrow afternoon from the family
home and will be under the auspices
of the Woodmen of the World, the
deceased being a member of the Pen
dleton camp. The services at tho
house will be conducted by Rev. Nel
lor, pastor of the Congregational
church.
Barney Crowner was a native of
Missouri and had been a resident of
Umatilla county for 20 years. For
about 16 years he lived at Meacham,
and three years ago moved to a ranch
three miles west of town. At his death
he left a wife and five children. He
also had five brothers and two sisters,
all of whom are living In Pendleton.

er, Ollle Crowner, J. H. Crowner,
Qrover C. Crowner, Mrs. Leo Todd and
Mrs. Clark Bets.
Raised 9200 for Family.
The friends and neighbors of Mar
tin Markeson, whose homo on the
river west of town, was burned a
few days ago, have raised the sum of
$200 In cash and provisions for the
family. The flood a few days previous
had drowned Markeson'a cows, chick
ens and hogs, his team was stolen a
few months ago, and the recent fire
left the family almost destitute. The
kind act of their neighbors Is highly
appreciated by the family.
