Combs, the well known cattle buyer, got busy last week, and before the smoke had cleared away had se cured something like 1000 head of steers. He purchased In Grant and Gilliam counties, mostly from North Fork and Haystack countries. The round-up will occur In June, the stock going to John T. Sebree, the Idaho cattle buyer, at Ontario, for shipment to Omaha. Ho Rays prices are fully as good as last season, and paid $14 for yearlings, (20 for twos and 126 for threes.' Asked If the limitation of grazing because- of reserves caused growers to let go so freely, he suld to a News man that he thought not. He said further that he believes the reserve will be a great benefit to home stock men, as they will not long be pestered with outside sheep. John Day News. Mora Voters In Crook County. , Registration books for the election next month closed last week, the number of voters registered being the greatest In the history of the county. This year there are 1741 names on the books, which Is an Increase of 509 over the registration two years ago when a total of 1232 were registered. This afternoon Constable Harper brought down from Umatilla E. S. Davis, a railroad man, formerly of this city, who, upon n warrant sworn to by his former wife, Minnie Davis, was arretted this morning on the charge of bigamy. Davis was put under $500 bonds to appear before Justice Douthlt Mondny morning. It will be romembered thnt Minnie Davis disappeared mysteriously from her home on Ninth street about three years ago and that since that time Da vis married Mrs. Armstrong. This afternoon on order of Judge White of the circuit court, Andrew Jackson, the slayer of Warren Mat thews, his brother-in-law, was releas ed from custody under $500 ball. The bonds were put up and Jackson Is now at liberty. He had been In Jail for about a month as the charge against him In the preliminary hear ing was murder and no ball could be fixed. The grand jury reduced the charge to manslaughter which per mits ball. Baker City Herald. Sold Out, Going to Alberta.
