Arrests have been made of three saloonkeepers charged with Illegal selling of liquor without license In formations are being filed direct to the superior court by Prosecuting Attor ney Crass charging three more saloon keepers with having violated .the Sun day closing law. Those arrested for keeping opon shop on Sunday are A. H. Blake, of Mills & Blake; W, T. Rarey, of the Tumwater, and J. M. Duffy, of the Olympla. This Is the first time that the first two have ever been arrested, The latter, who Is the president of the local saloon organization, has had a rocky road to travel for the past sev eral months, having been arrested five times lately on the same charge. Those arrested for conducting gambl ing houses were: C. Q. Codas, charged with conducting a game In the base ment of the Wenatchee Liquor & To bacco company store; Robert Schmo ker, for conducting a game In the rear of J. M. Duffy's saloon, . and Lee Athens, for conducting a game In the rear of Maxwell's billiard parlors. The heurlng of these men was hod today before Judge J. B. Palmer, and all asked for continuances, which were granted after , bail was given in the sum of $1000 each. The arrest of the keepers of bawdy houses was also a surprise to themselves, as they have been running unmolested, despite the fact that they have been growing more and more obnoxious to the law-abiding element. Spokesman-Review (We natchee Cor.) Organize to Protect Timber.. The Clearwnter Fire Protective as sociation was organized this morning. The object of the organization Is to combine all the big holders of timber in the Clearwnter country In a united effort to protect the timber, against forest fire. At the temporary organization this morning K. N. Brown was chosen pres ident and Oeorge H. Kester secretary and tronsnrer. A committee compris ed of K. . Brown, Oeorge H. Kester and Pom Cameron was appointed to a'tend the meeting to be held June 1 at Coeur d'Alene to co-operate with the timber men of that section of the state. Those present nt the conference this morning were; A. W. Laird, of the Potlntch Lumber company; Dom -Cameron, for Shelvln & Clark; Oeorge Sehofleld, for the Schofleid Interests, Oeorge H. Kester and W. F. Ketten bach for the Kettenbach-Kester Inter ests and William Dwycr and E. N. Brown for the Clearwater Timber company. For the state K. L. Mirvln. of the state land board, was present and was authorized to pledge the co-operation of the stute with the plans and pur poses of the organization. Lcwiston Teller. .... The plat covering this land was re ceived In the local land office yester day and the official filing will be July 6. All filings made by the pub lic will, however, be subject to the preference right of selection by the state of Idaho for a period of 60 days. The land Is all located In township 42-1 west and consists of sections one to IS Inclusive, excepting section 8 and the east half of sections 16, 22, 23 and 24. Settlers are said to be living at present on a portion of the land, and It Is presumed they will file home stead entries. It Is said that another land line will soon be formed by parties desiring to enter the land under the timber and stone act. Lew istor. Tribune. I-nlston & Southeastern Railway. .The fiist rails of the.Lewlston & Southeastern railway were laid today from Fifteenth avenue south within the city limits. The work Is being performed by the Inland Construction company, which concern holds the contrnct for the construction of the first five miles of the road, and suf ficient steel Is expected to reach the city within a few days to extend the line from Lewlston to Asotin. "We will have the line In operation from LewlBton to Asotin within a few months," said President Q. W. Thomp son this morning, "and expect to have sufficient steel here within a short time to construct the system through the city and the Asotin extension. All work will be rushed and It l expected a large force will be engaged In con struction from this end within a short time." Lewlston Teller. IniMrtnnt Mine Company. Articles of Incorporation of the White Crystal Lime company were filed In the county clerk's office yes terday. The capital stock Is placed nt 160.000 divided into 600 shares. The Incorporators are W. F. Butcher, John L. Rand and John Wnterman. The new corporation takes over the property east of Durkee that has hitherto been operated by an Idaho company with an equipment for turn ing nut CO barrels a day. Colonel Butcher says the new company, which will embrace all that were In the old, will prepare to Install a plant that will he able to put out 3000 barrels of lime, of a quality found In only two other places In the world The Black Hills and a South American point. Just how soon this 'will be done de pends upon circumstances which are of a business character.
