At 7 o'clock this morning the ma chinery will be started and the first log will be run through the big mill erected at a cost of half a million dol lars about six miles up the river. A force of men has been engaged suf ficient to operate the mill to half ca pacity, which Is all that will be at tempted for the present. One of the big band saws will not be started for several weekB, according to the pres ent Intention. It Is expected 'that the mill will cut about iOO.OOO feet of lumber each .day. There. are Jogs. now In the big pond above the mill to an aggregate of probably 10,000,000 feet, ajid sev eral million feet more are expected when the main drive puts In an ap pearance, which will likely be within a week. There will be In all some 16,000,000 or 16,000,000 feet of tim ber In the pond before the run Is far advanced. - This amount of logs Ms expected to keep the mlll-rumilng at the speed to be used for probably five months, and -perhaps six. Thewe logs could all be cut up in much less time than that If the plant were puHhed to Its full ca ' paclty, but this Is not deemed advis able, as long as It Is unnecessary. - The Barber Lumber company now bos about 100 men employed at the mjll site,, but , not all of these arc to 1m engaged in tne mm. Drank Poisoned Water. The second case of poisoning from drinking water poisoned by spray re Dorted within the past few weeks comes from Hood Hlver, where young mnn died Saturday from that cause. His name was Frank L. Polk and his uge 22 years, 6 months and 10 days, and he came from Friend with his father, William Polk, some time last week to pick berries In the Hood Hlver patches. Saturday after noon he had come down to the city for a practice gstme of ball, and be coming warm during the Tame, stoop ed down and drank from a ditch which passes through the town. Ten minute after he drank the water he died In terrible agony. Investigation proved that trees hanging oyer the ditch hod been sprayed, and. as doc tors and all agreed thnt was the cause of death, Coroner Hurgett thought It unnecessary to hold an imiuest. Boise Capital News. Hogs and Wheat From lUghy. In the past tew days five cars of hos and seven cars of wheat have been shipped to Seattle, and over $6,- 000 was paid to the farmers. The price was 16.10 per cwt., live weight, which Is the highest price paid for hogs In- this country for a number of years. The wheat brought 99 cents per 100, and was sold to Ogden par ties. ThlB netted the farmers about $4500. There yet remains 10 or 12 cars of wheat In the adjacent country for export, besides what the local mill will use. Ulgby (Idaho) Star. White Man Was Fbied. As a result of the midnight fight between seven Japanese and five white men Vhlch started In Sherman's suloon on North Front street 'late Friday night and ended In a bloody encounter in front of the saloon, Frank Madden the offending white man, was arraigned before Police Judge Doust Saturday night and fined $90. One of the Japs was fined $10. In talking about the matter to a Republic reporter Judge Doust said that It was very clear to him that the white man was to blame.
