Leading Druggists Volume of Work Has Compelled Sus pension for Some Time. That lease making at the agency will be suspended until August has been announced by Major Edwards, agent upon the reservation. The rea son for the suspension of such work Is that so many leases have been re celved at the office that It will require the clerical force several months In which to catch up on the accumu lated work. There Is. an endless rou tine to be followed In making the leases In accordance with the require menta of the department, and to dis pose of what Is now on hand will re quire much time. Although many leases have been written within the past month or two, the work is sold to be far from fin ished yet, as there are about 1000 al lotments In all. Precarious or Slight Income From Hay and Cereals Transformed Into Uniform CshIi Receipt Through Cheese ami Butter Northern Idaho Developing Rapidly, Wlicre There Has Been In Two Years 500 Per Cent Increase In Number of Cows Milked. Twenty creameries have been started In the northwest In the past 18 months, and there has been greater development In this branch of Indus try than In any other In the north west, according to a creamery expert who was In the city this morning. The country along the upper Col umbia river, In the mountain districts of northern Idaho and the foothills of the Palouse and Clearwater country, have all shared In this wonderful creamery development Farmers who had practically no In come excepting from their hay and wheat farms are now making from t to $8 per head on their cows during the summer months and the market for home made butter has Increased materially In all the towns and cities tributary to these creameries. Especially Is the northern portion of Idaho developing her creamery In terests rapidly. The fine range and abundance of mountain water and the good market for butter In the mining and lumber camps of that part of the state, all unite to make it an Ideal creamery country. Most of the new creameries started are Independent companies and the country is not favorably inclined the big monopolists who have held the butter market In their grasp for years. Many of the concerns have been started by local capital and are owned principally by the business men of the various small towns and by the farmers who furnish the cream from their farms. It Is estimated that the number cows milked In northern Idaho has Increased 500 per cent In the past two years, owing to the market for butter fat afforded by the new creameries. Eastern Oregon has come In for her share of this development also, as two new creameries have Just been started In Wallowa valley by the Blue Mountain creamery of Pendleton and La Grande, and a new creamery Is ready to open at Echo. The alfalfa districts adjacent to Echo and Pen dleton make them Ideal locations for creameries.
