The club suggested the Idea to the city council and it met with enthusiastic favor, and the days for the work will be May ' 15 and 16. The council will hire teams and all people are expected to clean their yards. To make Weston look beautiful Is the idea. The mayor has appointed Mrs. G. W. Proebstel, sr., . Mrs. W. E. Isaac French, th 14-year-old son of Mrs. French of this place, died Tuesday of consumption from which disease he has been a suf ferer for some time. He was burled at Athena Wednesday. He leaves his mother, two brothers and two sisters to mourn his death. City Recorder J. D, Qreglilre Is in Portland and southern Oregon, where he will remain for several days on business and pleasure combined. Mr. Harper, the barber, and family have gone to Pendleton to reside. D. B. Richardson passed through the city last Sunday afternoon en route to Weiser, Idaho, .on business. A.- Ferguson are expected over from Helix Sunday to spend the day. Mrs. Jerry Swartz, wife of the de pot agent, who was operated on at Athena a few days since, Is Improving slowly. It will be a week or 10 days before she will be able to be up. The O. R. & N. company has a force of men at work building a coal shed near the depot. Two carloads of wheat were ship ped from the warehouse ' at this place by different farmers to the Athena mills last week. ' Arrangements are now being made to ship a carload to Pendleton this week. August Arp has secured a water wheel, which he has placed In Wild Horse creek, to use In Irrigating a tract of land which he has planted in garden stuffs. Delegates to Portland. T. A. Lleuallen and G. M. Morrison, members of the I. O. O. F. lodge, have been chosen as delegates to at tend the grand lodge convention which will be held In Portland May 22 and 23. County Commissioner J. W. Carey today received a letter announcing the finding of a body in the Columbia river, three miles east of Paterson postofflce. In the southern part of the county. The dead man Is unknown. The body was dressed only in drawers and laced railroad shoes and la badly decomposed. The man was about E feet 11 Inches tall and weighed 160 pounds, had dark complexion, and three upper and four lower front teeth were missing. No other clew to his Identity Is obtainable.
