will go to Iji Grande Saturday to
play ball with the La Grunde team,
on Saturday and Sunday. There will
be two new players In the team for
these games In place of Danny Shea,
llutler and the Nordeans. A largo
number of Athena people will go to
La Grande for this game.
The streets of Athena did not have
many people on them last Sunday
owing to the fact that nearly every
body was attending the big ball game
in Pendleton.
Mr. Coolldge, the Jeweler, was In
Echo two days attending the carni
val and picnic, and he says "Echo Is
growing" all right.
Mrs. Jerry Swartz, wife of the depot
agent nt Adams, who underwent an
operation a few days ago, Is getting
along very nicely. Dr. R. D. Cashatt
of Weston, assisted by Dr. A. H. Stone,
performed the operation.
Mrs. Jennie Harris has been In
Pendleton for some days having some
dental work done.
Hon. Thomas J. Kirk and wife and
C. A. Rarrett were among those from
here who nttended the picnic at Echo
the first of the week. They reported
an enjoyable time.
Cashier F. S. LaGrow And wife have

Mrs. Fred Boyd and daughter. Miss
Cecil, spent Last Sunday In remlle-
ton with friends.
The Caledonian picnic which will
be held here May 25 and 26. promises
to be one of the most enjoyable event

Sawmill men airing the Coeur
d'Alene river are somewhat disheart
ened over the prospect of a scarcity
of logs before the end of the summer.
Millions of feet of timber have been
cut back In the mountains which can
not be got out this season unless the
streams reach a much higher stage of
water. The snow Is now about gone,
except on the highest elevations, and
no material rise of the river or Its
tributaries Is anticipated. All the mills
in this vicinity are short of logs, and
some will be compelled to shut down
long before the end of summer unless
