Will Reclaim Idaho Marshes.
If the plana now In. contemplation
for draining the marsh land In the
Payette valley between Emmett and
New Plymouth are found to be fensl
ble, miys the Emmett Index. Some
thing like 12,0(111 ncrcs of rich farm
land will be added to Hmmett's terri
tory. A party of Chicago financiers have
taken up (he project anil have attked
E. E. Forshay to make a report on ltn
feasibility, cost and bent means of re
clalminK the land. It 1h eHtlmaled be
tween 16, (ion ami 2(1,0(10 acres will be
redeemed If the work Ih undertaken.
Briefly outlined, the plan In to build
two large drainage ditches, starting
from near the foothills south of this
city and extending nearly to New Ply
mouth, where they will empty Into
the Payette river. Diverging from
both sides of the two main canals, like
laterals of an Irrigation project, will
be constructed small ditches which
will drain small patches of land.
Wherever necessary, tiling will be
used. No estimate has yet been mnde
of the cost of this gigantic scheme,
but Mr. Fnrshny Is at work making
figures. ,
The iund proposed to be redeemed
was once rich and fertile ground, and
It Is claimed that by draining off the
water and washing away the alkali,
It will again return to Its former fer
tile condition. At present It Is the
home of the cat-tall and the haunt
and feeding ground of the wild duck.
It extends In a long chain from
Freezeout hill to Talk's Store and var
ies In width from a few hundred yards
to a mile. Tho ground Is low and
forms a basin for the seepage from
the Irrigating canals that skirt the
foothills.

Found Nnir Old Ferry.
A man was found dead this morn
ing near Olds Kerry. The sheriff was
notified and with the coroner brought
the body to this place. A search of his
effects revealed that his name was F.
W. Rryan, which was on a letter from
his mother. The letter was sent from
Rogersvllle. Mo and It seems the man
must have been on his way to his old
home as he had In his possession a
ticket from Portlund to that place.
He also had J5 In money and a sliver
watch.
From the nature of the bruises on
the body It Is evident that the man
either Intentionally Jumped off the
cliff, landing on his head, or else fell
off. One of the trainmen said that
Thursday the man was on his train
and complained of having pains and
that he got off at Olds Ferry that
night. News of the death has been
telegraphed tho man's mother.
