The call was made fro the printed excerpts furnished by fitate Superintendent Ackermnn, which for some reason unexplulned,. omitted several salient features. This condi tion was uscertulned by Attorney 8. O. Correll, who made an examination for the Duker Loan & Trust Co., which concern stood ready to tuke the bonds In their entirety, If they had been Is ued regularly. The school directors huve been endcuvorlng to obviate the delay which another election will re quire, but It Is Improbable that they will find a way out of the dilemma, save by making a second call for an election. It Is said that Pendleton went through the same experience only a comparatively short time ago. Ba ker City Democrat. It. & N. engineers, was accidentally fhot yesterday afternoon at the camp a few miles below the city by a companion who was handling a revolver. The bullet entered the calf of the leg and shattered the bone. Mr. Winger was brought to the city and Dr. Morris dressed the wound lust night. The log drive of the Cascade Lum ber company Is' in full swing., There are about 150 men bringing 20,000, 000 feet of lumber from the pine tlm ber belt around the headwaters of the Yakima river down the rapidly swelling stream, to the Cascade dam Just above Seluh station. The present drive Is the largest In the history of the lumber company. It has only been In progress a few days. The snows are lute In melting this year and consequently the waters of the river are yet low. This being true It was Impossible to get the drive started earlier. This year the drive Is about two weeks later than It was In 1905. Yakima Republic. School RoikIh Were Defeated. In the school bond election held yesterday for the purpose of voting $30,000 to purchase a block of ground and build a ward school In the western section of Normal hill the proposition was defeated by a vote of 294 to 222. The opposition came from the eastern part of the city where there Is a demand for another school building and the citizens of that sec tlon ask that their needs be consld ered also. There Ih a called meeting of the school board for tonight and an opinion seems to prevull that a bond Issue for 140,000 will be called and preparations made to build two ward schools this fall.
