OIUDf.ON, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 1008. j Among the Exchanges j j of the Inland Empire j , O.iiiuiIh for Three, Eorcst lleMcrvca. Major Fenn received Instructions from the department this morning to assign to duty 18 additional forest guards on the reserves under his su pervision, the men to commence work Miiy 1, at a salary of $720 per annum. Ten guards to go to the Sawtooth re nerve, three to Welser and five to Payette. The appointments are tem porary, the guards being directed to take the examination at their first opportunity, when the appointments will be made permanent for all that succeed In passing. "This gives us a force of 27 guards and rangers on the three reserves," said Major Fen this morning, "which will he able to look after the work In pretty good shape until the fire season begins. Thu force wll be largely In creased as soon as the fund In the de part mi nt will Justify such action. It Is the policy of the service to use the funds derived from the sale of timber and other sources of revenue for main talnlng the expense of the reserves. We should have at least 40 officers to properly attend to the work on hand and no doubt this number will be given us iib soon ns the Income will Justify the expense." noise Capital News.
