KIDNEY TROUBLES i Increasing Among Women, Bat Sufferers Need Wot Despair j THE BEST ADVICE IS FREE Of all the diseases known, with which the female organism is afflicted, kidney disease is the most fatal, and statistics show that this disease is on the increase among women. Unless early and correct treatment is applied the patient seldom survives when once the disease is fastened upon her. We believe Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound is the most effi cient treatment for chronic kidney troubles of women, smd is the only med icine especially prepared for this purpose. When a woman is troubled with pain or weight in loins, backache, frequent, painful or scalding urination, swelling of limes or feet, swelling under the eyes, an uneasy, tired feeling in the region of the kidneys or notices a sediment in the urine, she should lose no time in commencing treatment with .Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, as it may be the means of saving her life. For proof, read what Lydia E, Pink ham's Vegetable Compound did for Mrs. Bawyer. " I cannot express the terrible suffering I bad to endure. A derangement of the female ori(sns developed nervous prostration and a serious kidney trouble. The doctor attended me for a year, but I kept getting worse, until I was unable to do anything, and I made up my mind I could not live. I Anally decided to try Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Com pound as a last resort, and I am trwiay a well woman. I cannot praise it too highly, and I tell every suffering woman about my can." Mrs. Emma Sawyer, Conyers, Ga. Lindsay Denlson, who, unhampered by any necessity of catching the next boat back, recently made a detailed Investigation of the work being done on the Panama canal, does not share the gloomy views of certain of the administration long-distance critics. In an extremely sane article in tho current Everybody's Magnslne, entitl ed "Making Good at Panama," he says: "On the Isthmus of Panama the business of the American people Is be ing well done. It Is not perfect. There Is too much petty graft as on the railroad; but It Is of no more Im portance than mosquito bites on an elephant. But one has only to use his eyes to see that we have gone Into one of the pest holes of the world, and have made It fairly habitable; that we have tackled a job In which anoth er great notion failed conspicuously, and are so conducting it as to keep clear of shame; that In spite of tre mendous difficulties on the spot and malicious and mercenary hindrances here at home we are doing sane, ef fective, honest work; that we are go ing to build the canal and build It well. "There are too many men on the Isthmus who ought not to be there. Rut In John F. Stevens and In the men who surround him there burns the spirit embodied In the words which Theodore Roosevelt is said to have uttered recently to an engineer about to depart for Panama: " 'Remember this; that whatever the American people may think of you and me, the last thing they will ever forget about either of us will be that we had to do with the making of the Panama canal.' " " THE WORK OF THE SALOON. Idaho Community Lament!) tho Liquor Traffic. The Culdesac News gives the fol lowing account of the result of a drunken brawl following a dance at Winchester, in Xez Perce county: Boyd, the saloon keeper at Win chester, gave a free dance last Sat urday evening. There were present a great many men and boys, but there was a great scarcity of girls for that occasion, the ladies of the Winchester country declining to mingle with the boozers. The disproportion of ladies and gentlemen made things awkward. It wasn't long till a general row en sued, and one young fellow ran away, leaving his girl to the tender mercies of some other fellow. A second onslaught was made on Arthur Reese from behind, with a knife, and two terrible wounds In the back of his head were made by George Rowden. Reese Is a respect able young man, and the people of the Winchester country greatly re gret his misfortune. A surgeon was summoned to staunch the flow of blood and sew up the gashes on Reese's head. In a few hours more he would have been a dead man. He Is still in a critical condition. Mrs. Boyd, wife of the saloon man, took part In the affray and had two fingers badly cut. The whole prem ises were covered with gore. The Winchester community Is heartily sick of the liquor traffic, and every effort will be made to have the license revoked. The mill owners find It hard to put on a full force of men Mondays, because of the drunk enness on Sundays. The sentiment of the people Is that the saloon must go at any cost. John King, proprietor of the hotel building, and the man ager of the town hall ha decided to close the hall against dances. IroHiierlty In Argentina. The blood cannot properly nourish the system while in this impure condition, and begins to throw off these acids through the pores and glands of the skin, producing Acne, Eczema, Tetter, Psoriasis, Salt Rheum and skin diseases of every description. EOZEMA appears usually with a slight redness of the skin, followed by pustules from which there flows a sticky fluid that dries and forms a crust, and the itching is intent;'?. It is generally on the back, breast, arms, legs and face, though other parts of the body may be afflicted. In TETTER the skin dries, cracks and bleeds, and is often very painful. The acid in the blood dries up the natural oils of the skin, causing a dry, feverish, hardened condition and giving it a leathery appearance. ACNE makes its appearance on the face in the form of pimples and black-heads, and is particularly disagreeable because of its unsightly appear ance, while PSORIASIS, a scaly disease, comes in patches on different parts of the body. One of the worst forms of skin disease is SALT RHEUM. It discharges a watery fluid, form ing sores and producing intense itching. The head and face are the parts usually affected, and sometimes the hair falls out and a mass of sores forms on the scalp. These and all skin diseases are due to the .same cause burning acids and humors in the blood, and until this vital fluid is cleansed and made pure they will continue. The best treatment for all skin diseases is S. S. S., a remedy that is purely vegetable, being made en tirely from roots, herbs and barks, and acts directly on the blood with a cleansiug, healing effect. It neutralizes the acids and purifies the blood so that the skin, instead of being blistered and burned by the fiery fluids, is nourished by a supply of cooling, healthy blood. It goes down into the circulation and forces out every particle of waste or foreign matter, builds up the blood and cures all skin diseases promptly blood. Nothing equals S. S. general health. Stevens, Socialist Candidate for the United Stales Senate, IMMcusnes the Methods Used by Jonathan Bourne to Prostitute the Press of the State Had Itourne Heen Se lected the riipers Who Sold Them selves Would Have Keen Hcsnond blc. Pendleton, April 25. (To the Editor East Oregonlan.) That the country editor Is generally hard up and In want of funds, we know from their own complaints, that they will accept and are glad to get anything from strawberries to cord wood In exchange for subs or ads, we believe from their own admissions. That thry resort to all manner of tricks and devices (mostly honornble and legitimate) to keep the wolf from pn.iwlng the varnish from the piano logs, we will take for granted, as In this commercial world of ours to get on even editors must sometimes do thlnes a trifle shady. Hut and here is the point how an editor can he so hard up or In such desperate .straits s to receive money for space and write-ups from such a creature us Jonathan Bourne, Jr., passes my comprehension. That this fellow has In the last three months In the state of Oregon dis tributed 130,000, mostly among the newspapers, dally and weekly, can with a little figuring be easily proven. Bourne, or any other political shyster like his henchmnn and crimi nal partner, W. S. U'Ren, it would seem, can with the assistance of the subsidized press of Oregon nearly en ter the United States senate, to repre sent the decent people of Oregon. How can honesty and law-abiding citizenship be maintained if almost the entire press of a state is bought by the moneyiof a political criminal? How can you expect good nnd Just laws to cmnn'ite from the legislatures looking over these bargains and permanently. S. S. S. does not leave the least par ticle of the poison for future outbreaks, but entirely rids the blood of the cause for all skin diseases. S. S. S. tones up the system and regulates the Liver, Kidneys and Bowels so that they will carry off the natural waste and refuse matter through the proper channels, instead of leavine it to be absorbed dv the S. in the treatment of these troubles and for building up the treatise on skin diseases and any medical advice you wish. THE SWIFT SPECIFIC COMPANY, A TLANTA, GA. of the Btate and the members of the United States senate when with the tacit agreement and connivance of the press are elected fellows like U'Ren to the first, and tin-horn gamblers like Bourne to the second? Its Impossible. Had Bourne received the nomina tion for United States senator, the pa pers who "boomed" him for the nomi nation would have been bound, by money, of course, to demand his elec tion at the hands of the legislature. And then we could have "pointed with pride" to his election and view ed with alarm the efforts of his oppo nents to defeat him. The thanks of the whole state Is due the East Oregonlan of Pendleton for not only taking an honest course In the Bourne matter, but the only posslbh? common sense course, when the press of nearly the whole state can be hired to support Bournes and U'llens, God help us, we are In sore need of a change.
