George Wold, 10 years old,, has been discovered at the Shoshone county poor farm after being missing from his home here for several days. A pathetic story attaches to the lad's journey over the hills to the county refuge. The little chap's father died a few days ago and the 'youngster became imbued with the Idea that his mother would be hard pressed to provide for himself and brothers and sisters. Al though this was not the case, the Im pression grew on the lad, and the stories he had heard of the poor farm recurred to his mind as a solution of the problem. Without consulting anyone, the boy finally struck out for the poor farm. Arriving there four days ago, footsore and- weary, he told the superintend ent of his troubles, and requested that he be taken In until he was old enough to go to work. Police Chief Decker has been work ing on the case ever since the boy vanished, and finally located the lad. He wos brought home amid general rejoicing, and was convinced that he might best assist his bereaved mother by remaining at home and helping her to his utmost. Wardner News. Fruit Imxx Not Heavy. The fears expressed some- time agol as to the entire failure of. the fruit crop are being pleasantly dispelled, at least as far as the cherry, prune and plum crops are concerned. The cherry trees ore now in full bloom and pre sent a decidedly attractive appear ance. It Is expected that the crop of Royal Ann cherries will be the largest In the history of Vlneland. The Kings will not be quite a full crop, but they will yield well up to the average. The crop of prunes and plums will be all that could be desired. The pear crop will also be quite satisfactory. The peaeh crop will perhaps reach 3000 boxes composed of early clingstones, such as the Triumph, Kneed and Hale's Early, the late freestones, mostly of the Salway variety. Strawberries are now blooming quite freely and it Is expected that the crop will bp a good one though the ncrenge Is by no means as large ns In former years. Lcvlston Tri bune. Second Escape Within n Month. For the second time within a month ThomaB Melville has made his escape from the oounty Jutl," and Sunday night the bottom lands south of town. where the government Irrigation res ervoir will be located, were alive with men armed with guns and revolvers looking for the self-confessed horse thief. He was not retaken. Melville took a desperate chance In making his escape and was probably wounded In the endeavor. Sheriff Thomas had entered the Jail with din ners for the prisoners, when Melville crowded by him and broke Into a. run for the willow-covered flat down the hill. Quickly locking the other prisoners In the steel cage, Sheriff Thomas started In pursuit, firing as he ran. Melville entered the brush fully 100 yards ahead of the sheriff and evi dently unharmed. Many people Vaw tho escape, and In a few moments every able-bodied man was out In the fiat hunting the fugitive with what ever weaponB were available. It was a man hunt, with dogs and guns, Sheriff Thomas was the first to sight the prisoner and fired four more shots at Melville as he crossed a small opening in the thick brush. Melville almost fell nt the third shot, and the sheriff is convinced thnt the bullet found a billet. Spokesman-Review iconconuuy uor. j Rheop Hip for Spraying Trees. State Fruit Inspector A. F. Hltt and District Deputy Hurst have been making a test of Rex sheep dip for spraying orchards to destroy scale. It Is made of lime and sulphur and bids fair to do the work successfully, but the Inspector would not express an opinion on It until the test has been concluded. Mr. Hltt recently finished Inspecting the two nurseries at Nampa, where he found everything In good shape. He left today for Rlnekfoot where he will Inspect the two nurseries located In that section. Sneaking of the outlook for fruit Mr. Hltt said apples, pears, prunes, etc.. have not been Injured by the cold weather and promise a bumper crop, Here In town the peaches, Bweet cher ries and apricots have not been hurt to amount to anything, but down the valley and out on the bench, he said, there would not be over half a crop of peaches, and the apricots were badly killed. He thought the general fruit outlook for a big yield was never better. Boise Capital News. TRKASl ItK M ItriXS OK CI TV. Wonderful AntlqulilcN Found In Af ghanistan. Kabul, Afghanistan. April 19. Upon his arrival at Jellulabad the Ameer received a letter from his son. Another letter wes received from Sardar Abdullah Khan Tokhi, of Ra Inkh, stating that while some peasants were preparing their land for cultiva tion they came upon some ruins, which. on further examination. proved to be walled enclosures of a ruined city. The governor himself visited tho spot, and found the ruins of a large city, with some 4;old coins. the Inscriptions on w hich nobody could rend.
