Grant, traveler, lecturer, author and enthusiastic lover of Ore gon, formerly pastor of the Baptist Willie Temple In I'ortland, delivered one of the most, stirring addresses heard at the "See America First'" con gress, recently held In Salt Lake City. The object of the congress waR to stir u;- an Interest In American scen ery, and to encourage tourists to visit American points of Interest before go ing to Europe. In comparing western scenery with that of Europe, Mr. Grant said: "The Rhino is more than matched by our Columbia and Snake rivers, and the history of the Columbia can match the Rhine In delightful story. Dele gates representing every district In the fruit belt of Michigan are assem bled here to attend the meeting called by the State Horticultural society, for the purpose of bringing about a fed eration of the fruit growers of this state. Such a federation Is considered of great Importance to improve the fruit marketing conditions and thus preventing Kerlous losses to the fruit growers. It Is planned to have one central officer, who will keep the growers posted In regard to the de mands for fruit In every market, the ruling prices, so ns to regulate the supply and keep up the prices. It Is quite probable that some effort wlU be made to bring about the adoption of u law requiring each grower to stamp all sealed packages of fruit sold by him, with his name and address.
