LIVING T00HASTILY
AMERICAN WOMEN IREAK DOWN
Irregularities and Female Derange
ments Result Cured by Lydls, S.
Plnkham a Vegetable Compound.
Owing to our mode and manne
living, and the nervous haste of every
woman to accomplish just so much
each day, it is said that there is not
one woman In twenty-five but that
suffers from some derangement of the
female organism, and this is the secret
of so many unhappy homes.
No woman can "be amiable, light
hearted and happy, a jov to her hus
band and children, and perform the
duties incumbent upon her, when she
is suffering with backache, headache,
nervousness, sleeplessness, bearing
down pains, displacements, spinal
weakness or diseased organs.
Irritability and snappy retorts take
the place of pleasantness, and all sun
shine is driven out of the home, and
lives are wrecked by woman' great
enemy female trouble.
Bead this letter:
Dear Mrs. Pinkham :
' I to troubled for eight years with Irregu

while taking it until I was entirely cured. I
can attend to my social and household duties
and thoroughly enjoy life once more, as Lydia

me a well woman, without an ache or a pain."

WHAT IS CATARRH?
Tall mari A Co. Guarantee a Cure by
H.vomel or Will Refund the Money.
Until very recent years, it was
thought that catarrh was a disease
of the blood, but now modern science
has proved that catarrh Is a germ
disease, and can be cured only by a
treatment that will kill the germ and
heal the mucous membrane of the
nose and throat
Therefore, when you have catarrh,
you can readily see that if you want
to cure it. you should use Hyoniel,
which medicatts the air you treathe,
thus killing the catarrhal germ? and
healing the smarting and raw mem
brane cf the passages through the
nose and throat. In breathing Hyo
mel ycu are really treating your ca
tarrhal troubles with the only natu
ral method, for it will make the air
you breathe as pure, healing and anti
septic as -that found on the moun
taine where the pine forests give off
their frasrrant and healing balsams.
If there is any doubt In your mind
as to- the power of Hyomel to cure
catarrh, the unusual way In which It
is sold by Tallman Sc Co. should de

CATAB1H ofhe
Every Catarrh sufferer dreads the return of cold weather, for at the first
cold breath of the season this plague of Winter is fanned into life with all
its miserable symptoms. The nostrils are 6topped up, and a constant drop
ping of mucus back into the throat keeps up a continual hawking and spit
ting;, the patient has dull headaches, ringing noises in the ears and a half
sick, depressed feeling all the time. Every inner lining and tissue of the
body becomes inflamed, and secretes an unhealthy matter which is absorbed
into the blood and distributed to all parts of the body, and the disease be
comes constitutional. The catarrhal poison brings on stomach troubles,
affects the Kidneys and Bladder, attacks the soft bones of the throat and
head and if not checked leads to Consumption. A disease so deep-seated
nnd dangerous cannot be washed out, neither can it be smoked away.
Sprays, washes, inhalations, etc., are useless, because they only reach the
membranes and tissues, while the real cause of the disease is in the blood.
S. S. S. cures Catarrh because it attacks it through the blood; it goes into
the circulation and drives out all unhealthy accumulations and catarrhal
matter, and when this is done every part of the system receives a supply of
MMCIiyi J

entire system, cures Catarrh permanently. If
you have Catarrh do not waste time with local remedies, but begin S. S. S.

ROTESTS ASSESSMENT.
Claim to lie Taxed Much Too High In
Washington.
Jay Sedgwick, tax commissioner of
the Northern Pacific Railway com
pany, who paid over to the county
this morning about 150. 0(10 In taxes
for the N. P. company, left this after
noon for Ellensburg, says the Takima
Dally Republic. Mr. Sedgwick was
asked what he thought about the re
sult of the assessor's meeting In Olym
pla last January In regard to their
raising the assessed valuation of the
railways to (14.620.
"This Is a matter which I don't
much care to discuss," said Mr.
Sedgwick. "The Northern Pacific Is
perfectly willing to pay Its just pro
portion of the taxes, but does not like
the Idea of being discriminated
against."
"If the N. P. complained against
paying the tax levy of 1904 will It not
probably also kick about paying on
the 1906 valuation of almost double
the former amount?"
"The Northern Pacific won't kick
about anything that's perfectly fair,"
continued the tax commissioner.
"The assessors are giving us the worst
of It."
"Do you think then that you are
of the suffering and danger in store for her, robs the expectant mother
of all pleasant anticipations of the coming event, and casts over her a
shadow of gloom which cannot be f liuken off. Thousands of women
have found that the use of Mother's Friend during pregnancy robs
confinement of all pain and danger, and insures safety to life of mother
and child. This scientific liniment is a god-send to all women at the
time of their most critical trial. Not only does Mother's Friend
carry women safely through the perils of child-birth, but its use
gently prepares the system for the coming event, prevents "morning

There Is a growing belief among the people of Portland that
some day the great business center of the city will be on the penin

ing the heavy business such as the manufacturing and wholesale.
ThlB will naturally draw a dense population.
It Is gratifying to know that many of our Pendleton citizens own
property at Portland, nnd In the most promising part of Portland,
which Is between the rivers, where the railroads are now fighting
for position. J. F. McCarthy has Invested about $16,000 In that dis

J. H. Morris and several others have procured lots In the center of

then Mr. Sedgwick quoted some fig

that In 1904 the Northern Pacific
paid 5.8 per cent of all the taxes In the

to one-seventeenth of the entire as
