' In 18&S he moved to St. Louis and became local editor of a dally news paper. While In St. Louis he was ad mitted to the bar. The same year he migrated to the Pacific coust, where he was associated as law partner with the filmed California attorney, Ed mond Randolph, and In the spring of 1861, with Frank Plxley upon the stuff of the San Frnnctsco Times. From San Francisco he went to Silver City, N'ev., and became editor of the Washoe Times. He then went to Carson City, Nov., and iengnged In editorial work pn the Dully Silver Age.
