Mr. Caton is prosecuting attorney of Lincoln county. Wash. A New Year and Christmas hall will be given at the thena hall next Friday evening, which promises to be the leading ball of the season. The Kastern Oregon Baptist asso ciation will meet In Athena January Ind for the purpose of organizing a I'matllla County Baptist association. The purpose of this association will be to work In connection with the State Baptist association, and will enable them to meet more regularly. Rev. J. W. Jenkins, pastor of the Christian church In 4hls city, has re signed as pastor here, to take effect April 1. He expects to reside on hi? farm at Hood RlviT. and will give his entire attention to state missionary work, as he Is president of the Stnto Mission hoard of the Chrlsflan church. Miss Belle Wallace of the Whitman college faculty, is spending the holi days with her brother. Bruce Wal lace, In this city. Rev. George T. Ellis, of the Bap tist church, will spend Chrlstroa" with relatives In Baker Cltv. The Baptist church has recently been' thoroughly renovated, repaint ed, papered and a new furnace has been Installed. Some fine new pews have also been put In. On account of this work going on there will be no Christmas tree this year. Considerable Interest Is being man ifested here In the Gardena tract of land 1 miles northwest of this city. Mr. Craighead, of the firm of Craig head & Hays, accompanied a party of land-seekers to Oardena, Friday, who ore thinking of purchasing 10-ncre tracts. This land comes under the Walla Walla Irrigation company's tract. Christmas In Athena. Christmas will be observed In all its glory at the Christian and M. E. churches Monday evening. At the Christian church Santa Claus and a number of his fairies will appear, ami a fine program will be carried nut ennslsting of songs, recitations and the distribution of presents. At the M. E. church two large Christmas trees will he loaded with presents, and an lnn'reing program will be carried out. At the Baptist church the presents were distributed among tho children during the Sunday school hour. Hank Prosperous. By a new survey just completed the state of Idaho has 430 square miles more than was recorded on the map, and this new Requisition will add con siderable wealth to the state. The surveyors were setting the boundary' line between Idaho and Montana. The work has not quite been completed, and It is probable that when It Is at least 500 square miles will be added to ;he state. The land will be forest reserve, so will not be open for settlement, hut the school funds of the state will get lieu land for school purposes.
