Entire Building Will lie Used by the Order for Its Own Purposes Large Rail Room Will Re Surrounded by a Gallery The Order Ha Over 400 Members In Raker City and Is the Leading Social and Fraternal Or ganisation of That IMacc Xo Com mercial Club In Baker City. The new Elks' temple at Baker City, dedicated last week, Is one of the finest structures of Its kind In the northwest It Is an elegant three story building and was erected by the Eaker City lodge at an expense of about $40,000. Unlike most buildings of Its kind the Baker City building Is designed solely as an Elks' club building, and no part will be rented for other pur poses. On the first floor of the build ing Is a bowling alley, billiard room, gymnasium with shower baths, and also the buffet. On the second floor Is a larg ball room with a splendid floor and handsomely fitted through out. The entire room Is surrounded by a balcony which Is designed for card playing as well as observation. The lodge also has offices and num erous other small rooms are on this floor. The lodge hall and banquet room are situated on the third floor. There are over 400 members In the Baker City lodge of Elks, and It If the leading social and fraternal or ganization there. As there Is no com mercial club there, the Elks club will be filling a much felt want SIDE ISSUES OF IRRIGATION'. Bridge and Road Taxes Complicate the Problem. The Twin Falls (Idaho) Times voices the appeal to the people of that tract for county aid to build roads In the following language: The Land 4 Water company has expended, according to a statement made to the good roads committee Wednesday, J30.000 for bridges on this tract And according to an esti mate made by him. It will require 160.000 to build the bridges now de manded on the tract on roads already laid out which approximates one third the amount that will be neces sary when all the section line roads on the tract are thrown open. These statements are here made for the ben efit of our board of county commis sioners, who this year appropriated less than $4300 for roads In the entire county. A committee last fall, before the levy was made, appeared before the board and made known conditions as I they exist They left with the im pression which was almost a prom ise that $2500 In lumber would be apportioned the three road districts bere, the settlers to donate work of building the approaches and putting the bridges in. Instead they received 15,000 feet 6000 for each district, which could have been purchased here for $300. - Their policy has been niggardly In the extreme. This tract last year ad ded a third to the assessment of the county, and will double It next year. This township alone. In eight months after the township was opened, was assessed at more than $600,000. Popu lation Is pouring In at a rapid rate, and within a couple of years this tract will have a greater population than the balance of the county. If the pol icy la to make this section bear Its portions of the burdens without get ting Its due return, what will be the policy when we have the supremacy? We are now contributing to build roads In other sections, helping to maintain their schools. This township pays $1000 Into the road fund. So far we have received back $300, and we have need of $3000. One-third of the taxes of the coun ty came from this tract. We must pay a third of levies more than $11, 000 which we had no part In creating and from which we receive no benefit. The settlers of this tract pay more Into every county fund than they re ceive back, and, appreciating this fact. they believe they should receive some thing more substantial than promises In the matter of bridges. TO OPEN TAXANA TRAILS. Miners Preparing to Go Into Northern Alaska. A large number of miners are pre paring for the opening of the Tanana winter trail and are outfitting at Seattle. The trail will be opened about January 1 and many are ready to get In ahead of the spring rush. A large number will leave Seattle the first of the week on one of the steam ship. All the miners are taking In large outfits and at Valdei they will pur chase additional supplies. New sta tions and road houses have been es tablished along the trail with a view to accommodating the rush. During last summer a large clean-up was made In the Tanana country, and It will probably be exceeded by thous ands of dollars next year. will move to have the matter trans ferred to Baker county. HUMILIATION For Fifteen Years Face and Body Mass of Itching Sores Could Not Express Suffering Doctors Failed Had Lost Hopt CURED BY CUTICURA AT COST OF $1.25 " My head was one mass of scabs, my forehead was covered down almost to my eyebrows, and I had to wear my hat all the time. My body was covered with spots in size from a pin head to as large as a silver dollar. A white, crusty scab would form and itch, and words cannot express the torture and humiliation I suffered for fifteen years. I tried many doctors, and all kinds of treatments, but could get no help, and I thought there was no hope for me. A friend told me to get Cuticura. I did, and in three days my head was as clear as ever. I ap plied tin-Ointment night and morning, also taking a hot bath three times a week, and usiujj the Ointment freely after the bath. After using one cake of Soap and two boxes of Ointment I was completely cured, without mark or blemish. I was so pleased I felt like running down the street to tell every one I met what Cuticura had done for me. If any one is in doubt about this, they may write to me. (signed) H. B.
