In the account of the court house $2,669.!I8 Is shown to have been paid for repairs up to November 1. This sum Is but a small portion of the total expense of re modeling the court house. In the road and highway account there Is In cluded J3S50 which was paid for the steam road roller purchased last sum mer. I'nder the miscellaneous account Is Included the sum of 13723.41, which was paid out during the period for the Umatilla exhjblt nt the bowls and Clark fair. The following Is the report In detail. Grover Mason Is dead at Russia Tills, Ind., from Injuries received in a football game three weeks ago. He was IS years of age. Trainmen coming over the Plue mountains say that a Japanes sec tion man who was walking track lost nlsht In the vicinity of Meacham, was chased by a cougar which met the Jap In the middle of the track. The Jap kept the animal at a distance by swinging his lantern at him, but at times It Is said the cougar attempted to attack the Jap In spite of the swing ing lantern. Finally the Jap reach ed the section house and the animal disappeared Into the timber.
