The articles of Incorporation for the organization of the Clearwater Leaf Tobacco (Turing & Packing com pany, with headquarter at Oroflno, . have been prepared and within a few dayH will be forwarded to the socre tary of iitate for filing. The company will be organised with a capitalization of S2K0.000 and with a paid up capi tal of 150,000 subscribed by Spokane and Oroflno citizen. The Hpokane organization ha been effected by H. While making hi tour of the Inter ior part of the state to ascertain If the weather bureau Instruments were In good shape at the various co-operative stations, District Forecaster Ileal says that he found one of hi observers busily employed In digging an arte sian well, says the Crook County Journal. The observer was F. M. Chrlsman, who Is located at a point near Sliver Lake, which is a barren desert with the exception of a heavy growth of sagebrush here and there. Mr. Chrlsman had the well sunk to depth of 222 1-2 feet and was still boring away confident that he would secure a good flow of water. Water was struck at a depth of 47 feet, but not in sufficient quantities to reach the surface. "Other settler In that neighbor hood are keeping in touch with tfts experiment," said Mr. Reals, "and If It proves a success It will mean great things to them. Water would make that one of the finest stock raising and furmlng sections In the state. There In a new country being settled this ( fall about 35 miles northeust of Silver Lake. Late experiments In that lo-j callty have shown that plenty or water can be found at a depth of only 10 or 12 feet below the surface. With this as the condition It is believed I hut the country will produce alfalfa and settlem tiro flocking In there from every point of the compass to try tltelr h:iml it I farming." Iiliilio lliw lost 2:l,(Mll Acre laind. , Bp,!i-i:il Agent Marvin, of tho state land tm.'ird, while chocking the grants In the Lewlston district, discovered 23.000 acres have been lost In tho stute's selections by reason of home stead and pre-emption filings and Indian allotments. These will fur nish a base for the selection by the state of lands In lieu. While a large proportion of these losses were Inev itable, still a considerable part was due to laxity In former administrations of the land department of the state. Agent Marvin also discovered that In the Lewlston district the state has made application some year ago for the selection of 2000 acres of valua ble timber lands, no record of which was to be found In the Boise office. The application I on file- with the Lewlston land office, but the record of the state contain no record of the transaction, and until the record at Washington have been consulted the land board cannot tell under' what grant the selection wa made.
