Now that Senator Fulton is buck la Washington there is a revival of spec ulation regarding the appointment it u federal Judge for this district, and li is generally believed tliat a man will be named shortly. However; there 1- absolutely no new light upon the sub ject, und who the appointee will be remains as deep a mystery as ever. While there has been some talk to the effect that the chances of Chief Justice Wolverton are good, this Is thought to be based entirely upon the fact that the chief Justice was recom mended by Judge Gilbert of the cir cuit' court of appeals In San Francisco. But this endorsement Is held by some attorneys to Indicate but little. In speaking this morning of the sit uation, one well known local attorney said: "It seems to me that the betting chances are In favor of Judge R. S. Gean of the supremo court He Is one of the favored five that were recom mended by Senator Fulton; whereas Judge Wolverton is not. Also, Judge Uean was given the endorsement "f Attorney , General Moody. Conse quently, it looks to me as though he was the favorite at present, though, of course, It is Impossible to tell who will be appointed." Should either Judge Wolverton or Judge Bean receive the honor a seat will be vacated on the Oregon supreme bench, and an appointment will have to be made by Governor Chamberlain.
