Each car will hold about 600 boxes. Apples this year nre bringing the grower a neat reve nue of from 31 to 32 a box. This year's crop of apples will aggregate 3100,000. A good example of what can be done on nn Okanogan county ranch Is shown by the apple yield of G, M. Adams, living four miles south of Brewster. Twenv-two boxes of Spltxenberg apples were taken from one of his trees and sold on the ranch for 31.40 a box. Figuring 100 trees to the acre, Mr. Adams could take off 33080 from nn acre planted with np pie trees, if nil his trees did equally as well. Marriage Licenses. Harriinan Lines Will Start New Serv ice to San Francisco. Beginning on Monday the Harrlman water line will establish a better steamship service between Portland and San Francisco than ever has been In existence In the history of local shipping between the two ports, says the Oregon Dally Journal, Instead of having only two steamers on the route the company will have four In regu lar commission twice the number which was operated during the Lewis and Clark fair. A telegraph message from R. P. Schwerln, vice president and general manager ot the flarrtman Steamship company, this morning states that he has chartered the steamer Senator, one of the finest vessels on the Paci fic ooast, which will leave San Fran cisco Monday morning for Portland, and will be operated regularly In connection with the Columbia, Costa Rica and Homer. The Senator belongs to the Pacific Coast Steamship company and Is one of the crack steamers which has beea running regularly between Seattle and the Bay City. She is a sister ship of the St. Paul, which was recently wrecked at Point Gorda, . Cal. She will carry 1800 tons of freight and has space for the accommodation of 600 passengers. Her speed is equal to that of the Columbia and together with tho latter, the Homer and Costa Rica the company is In a position to give better than a three days' service between here and the California me tropolis. Heretofore the company has endeavored to maintain a five days' service. This means that Portland will have a faster and more regular steamship service with San Francisco than has Seattle, which has long been In the lead. Aside from the four Harrlman boats, the Roanoke and F. A. Kil burn will be on the same route, as well as a large fleet of steam schoon ers. Taken together they will be equivalent to at least eight fair slxed steamers. It is believed that the charter of the Senator shortly will be followed by the announcement of her purchase by the Harrlman people. Bchwerip has declared repeatedly that he In tended to Increase the fleet just as soon as the business conditions war ranted such a move. When the fair was on he explained that no vessels were available. Since the Alaskan trade has dwindled to small propor tions a, number of. suitable boats are now on the disengaged list, which has made It possible for him to carry out his plans. When the company got tho St. Paul the general manager first chartered her and after she was found to be able to answer the requirements he bought her. Furnished rooms to let.
