District .Indue Slewurt yesterday
held that a native of Japan can not
become u citizen of the United Slates.
This decision was rendered In the
case of (1. C. Tunaker, a Jap, who
applied for admission to citizenship
of this country Judge Stewart de
nied the Application on the ground
that it native of Japan does not come
within the provision of the United
States statutes relating to the admis
sion to citizenship of foreigners. The
statute provides only for foreigners
of tho white race and people of Af
rican descent. Admission to citizen
ship was therefore denied. Judge
Stewart holds that the same rule
would apply to a t'hlnuman. Mr.
Tanaker Is a well educated Japan
ese who has studied law in this
country. -Iinlsc fctutesinan.
