ROASTS WALLACE,
Imparling Minister Hurl Hot Shot tit
Idaho Town.
The following dispatch from Wal
lace, Idaho, gives a synopsis of the
farewell sermon of Rev. H. V. Fer
guson, Baptist minister at that place:
"Get out, lest the Iniquities of the
city consume you." was the exhorta
tion of the minister. "I am going to
morrow and I advise you all to do the
same as soon us you can. So far as
1 can learn, there are no persons re
siding In Wallace who really want to
live here. They all expect to move as
soon as they can. Why, even God's
sunshine seems to begrudge the few
rays It sends down Into this dismal
murky canyon during the long months
of the fall and winter.
"After seven months of labor in
Wallace it is my impression that Wal
lace wants no preacher. Neither does
the city want institutional work oi
rescue work. Wallace bears the rep
utatlon of being a fine place for graft
ers Rnd fakirs. The moral rottenness
of the place is somewhat awful, and
the moral stench Is such that there Is
little wonder that not many people
want to live here.
"Then there is your mayor. Oh,
that beautiful mayor!
me $. to officiate at the funeral of
some old friend of his. Judging from
the language Mr. Osburn used he was
not a deacon of any church, but he
paid me for officiating at that fune
ral, which is something no one In
Wallace ever did.
"When I spoke to a prominent bus
iness man concerning the awful con
dition here he advised me to move out
If I did not like the ways of the city.
There is an old adage about 'When
you are In Rome do as the Romans
do.' God pity the Romans if they
did what the people of Wallace do."
