A clever and unusual method of robbery was Initiated at White Horse, by an audacious thief, whosr where abouts the police have so far been unable to find, says the Seattle Star. The thief picks out some miner liv ing alone In a tent. and. In the early hours of the morning sets -fire to It. So fur no one has been able to catch the thief at work, although the police huve been watch ing for some time. Hacon of Milwaukee, who hail signed the call for the conference, opened the session and delivered an address. In which he explained the object of the meeting and the importance, of Its ac tion in Impressing congress witli the necessity of passing laws extending the power of the interstate commerce commission, in accordance with the recommendation contained In Presi dent Roosevelt's message lo congress. In his last annual message Presi dent Roosevelt recommended: "The Interstate commerce commission should be vested with the power, where a given rate has been chal lenged and. after a full hearing found to be unreasonable, to decide, subject to Judicial review, what shall he the reasonable rate to take its place; the ruling of tile commission taking effect immediately, anil to ohtatn unless and until It Is reversed by the court of re view." The conference will seek to arouse public Interest in the move ment and to exert sufficient pressure upou congress to bring about the pas sage of the desired laws.
