Waltz came to town at a late hour that night and found Officer Boyd who was searching for a derelict cow. He stopped them and placed them under arrest. They reached the Crablll hotel where the watchman, who was In the rig, got Into a scrap with the two men and was getting the worst of It. Boyd was unarmed but commanded them to desist. Barker then drew a Win chester lying ln the bottom of the wagon which had been overlooked and took several shots at Boyd, who fell to one side of his horse and was later thrown to the ground. Irvin took the reins while Baker threw the watchman from the wagon, and drove hastily from town. . From that night until last Saturday neither had been seen by the police nor the sheriff and his offices, though report had It that they had appeared at their parents' homes. Saturday young Irvin came into town with his father. He was told that if he would give the whereabouts of Barker his offending would not be seriously con sidered.
