".Since the law went Into effect
there have been 17 new state banks
Incorporated, having an aggregate
capital of $305, 000 Seven of these
hanks with a capital nf 1120,000, are
located In the northern counties, while
the remaining 10 with a capital of
$15,0(10, are In the southern counties.
In addition to these there are two
more state bank being organized
with capital amounting to $75,000.
which will bring .the total number of
state banks to 75 and as there are 28
national banks in the state, we will
have 103 banks doing business, an In
crease of 25 per cent In eight months.
This tells part of the story of the
growth of our stute, as considerable
of the capital has been brought from
other states by parties who have be
come citizens and are doing their part
In developing our resources." Lewis

Fall and Winter
Goorgj In in Jailed. .
One year ago on the 21st of last
month George Irvin and Aaron Bar
ker, two young men whose parents
reside down the valley, were caught
hed-handed stealing grain from a far
mer named Waltz near Wlngvllle.
Waltz came to town at a late hour
that night and found Officer Boyd
who was searching for a derelict cow.
He notified the officer and came up
town, Boyd, with the night watch
man at the depot, kept a lookout and
in a little while the culprits appeared
In a double team. He stopped them
and placed them under arrest.
They reached the Crablll hotel
where the watchman, who was In the
rig, got Into a scrap with the two men
and was getting the worst of It. Boyd
was unarmed but commanded them
to desist. Barker then drew a Win
chester lying ln the bottom of the
wagon which had been overlooked and
took several shots at Boyd, who fell
to one side of his horse and was later
thrown to the ground. Irvin took the
reins while Baker threw the watchman
from the wagon, and drove hastily
from town. .
From that night until last Saturday
neither had been seen by the police
nor the sheriff and his offices, though
report had It that they had appeared
at their parents' homes. Saturday
young Irvin came into town with his
father. He was told that if he would
give the whereabouts of Barker his
offending would not be seriously con
sidered. This he refused to do and his
arrest followed. Yesterday he was
held for preliminary examination un
der $1000 bail, which he could not
furnish. The examination is set for
next Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
