It Is thought to have been his cus

leave his luggage In the seat and step
out on the platform, when he would

Sheep Killed Near Dale.
On Sunday night near here two
bands of sheep were fired into by a
band of lawless marauders. One band
was owned by Ilynd Uros., and wore
firming on rented range In the Sulphur
gulch country. About 100 shots were
exchanged between the mob and the
herders and about 75 sheep were
slaughtered. The other band was
grazing on rented range on Meadow
creek near the Tom Tuttlo ranch.
About 40 head were killed. It is un
derstood that this band Is owned by
Buslck. of Heppner. Nothing defi
nite Is known hs to who the men are
who committed these crimes, but they
bfl several clews behind which will

Within a period of four weeks the
Eastern Oregon Ilrewing company will
begin the erection of a magnificent
flvo-Mory structure to accommodate
the inrtallntion of new and modern
machinery for the manufacture of In
derwels beer. An Ice plant with an
Increased cupaclty will ulso be built.
tl'lie site of the new building will be
directly east of the present plant and
excavations are now practically under
way. The bottling works, which Is
independent of the brewery, and of
the late structure, will remain. Mr.
Inderwels, the promoter of this enter
prise, estimates tne new plant and im
provements to the grounds will cost

OATS MAY HE CONDEMNED.

The board of Inspectors of the
nuurtermntrter's department, United
States army at Seattle, Is now passing
on a consignment of 3150 tons, or
200.000 bushels of oats, when arc
being loaded on board tho United
States army transport Dlx and the
Boston Steamship company's steamer
llyades, for the Philippines at that
port.
While the board has mndo no offi
cial report of the matter to the quar
termaster's department, It Is under
stood that fully 10 cnrloadH of the
oats ore to be condemned. The oats
were purchased from Devereaux ft
Co., of St. Paul.

He has already purchased his ticket
for Portland and will leave tonight.
No complaint haling been filed against
him In the Justice's court. It Is not like
