The Canadian Pacific and the Great Northern railway systems are vlelng with each other In work that Is sure to meun a great deal to that part of the world. He writes: The work of developing the south central portion of British Columbia is going forward by leaps and bounds. The Canadian Pacific railway has a large force of men at work construct ing a branch line from Spence's Bridge southeastward to Nicola, a dary to Vernon. This road will fol glve access to a region extremely rich in minerals and will open up much fertile land especially adapted to fruit culture. Another company Is now construct ing a line from Midway on the boun dary to Vernon. 8his road will fol low the waters that flow from Oka nagan lake to Penticton, at the foot of the lake, then follow Its shores to Vernon. At Midway this line will con nect with the Canadian Pacific, so that shipments from the most pro ductive fruit growing district may be made to the prairie country in the Northwest Territories, and direct shipments will be made by this line to the coast. It will also connect with the Great Northern line, opening an outlet for produce to Spokane and eastward. The Great Northern railway Is now constructing an extension of Its Kettle River line from Grand Forks to Franklin Camp, 4 5 miles distant. This road will open one of the richest mining districts in this province.
