The Mountain Hheep Ditch company
Ih an Immense project Intended to

valley In the vicinity of Joseph.

ditch which Is It feet wide on the
top ami 12 feet on the bottom and
four feet deep, winds out of the deep
canyon to the level land below. In
the course of the ditch two falls, one
or 110 feet and the other of 121 feet

The amount of electrical power
that may he generated by these two
fulls Is almost Incalculable, and some
time In thp near future they will be
developed and put to use. Besides Ir
rigating: a la rue tract of land, there
me millions of feet of timber that will
be floated clown the big ditch to mar

Mrs. W. G. Stone, who resides at
S'.'T Kust Bannock street, and whose
liuslutml Is a member of the tailoring
firm of Stone & Laber, narrowly es
caped being burned to death shortly
before noon Saturday. As the finish
ing touch of her morning's work about
the kitchen. Mrs. Stone started to
clean the ranne with gasoline and tur
pentine, but the stove was too hot and
the mixture exploded, throwing the
burning oil all over her, and setting
her dress afire. She hastily seized a
blanket ami threw It about her, but It
aus not large enough to cover her en
tire dress and smother all the flumes.
Instant action was nevessury, and with
rare presence of mind, she ruHhed
from the front door of the house and
threw herself in the irrigating ditch
that runs In front of her home. Her
arms and throat were found to be
quite badly burned, but the physician
who was summoned does not regard
her Injuries as at all serious. Poise

attention to the problem of preserv

Timber Fires From Lightning.
T. H. West, who has. been In the
timber fighting forest fires, hus re
turned and reports thut seven fires
were started In township 38, range 3
east, by lightning.
"The surface of the ground Is mark
ed with Iron outcrops, there being a
Irage ledge. This seems to attract
lightning. Five fires have been put
out and two are still burning, but are
not serious. We built 35 miles of
trail to reach the five fires. Kendrlck
