These people ure looking over tlie west with the intention of finding a suitable location for a colony. They have been here several days und have looked oer the valley qulto thoroughly, and state that they are well satisfied with the appearances of the Grand Ronde but will look at the country around Portland and also go up to Albany, where there already Is an Amlsh set tlement. An Observer representative called at the hotel and enduavdVed to learn something of the Amlsh religion, but about all that could be learned was that their creed Is somewhat simi lar to the German Lutherans, und that four years ago, the entire sect numbered about 48,000 members. Shipped Twenty Cnrloadfl of Stock. 'Jno, Kenedy, buyer for Frye, Bruhn 4b Co., of Seattle, shipped seventeen cars of cattle and three cars of fat hogs Saturday to Seattle. The cattle were exceptionally fine grade. They were purchased from Seth Jones, Frank Wyatt and others on Salmon river. Owing to the low price of cat tle the stock men had decided to ship east, but the coast people were afraid of losing a good market und sent a man In to buy. The price paid was above the average. Joseph Stanford, who was the chairman of the Ogden district school board or education for many years, and an ardent supporter of the Ogden choir on their trip to Portland, stated In his public remarks that the man who laid the foundation und fostered the cause of music, was non other than Prof. L. I). Edwards, that silent musician of south Maker, who was the first to teach vocal mu sic In the ogden district schools, and continued for ten years. He was also teacher of some of tlie most cele brated muHleiaus that reside in Utah today. Haker I'lty Democrat. A fellow who gave his name t.s Dan Moore was arreted yesterday af ternoon by Chief Jackson in the Gem saloon, where he was attempting to sell a bicycle which he had stolen from H. N.
