Yesterday afternoon a wheat field fire which resulted in the burning of six or eight acres of grain for Harry Sears, occurred on the reservation east of this pluce. The blaze was no ticed Immediately after a thresher had passed over a certain plnce In the field, and It Is thought the fire was started by the machine. By the efforts of the crew the flames were kept from spreading to any great extent, und with only the Iobs above stated. A stack of wheat and the .thresher which were near the fire were saved by the hard work of the crew. MAY BRING ANOTHER SUIT. Relieved the O. R. & N. Will Take Another Try nt a Tax Suit. Since the supreme court overruled a motion for a rehearing of the O. George D. Goodhue the creamery promoter left this afternoon for Port land. Mrs. C. C. J, McKoln Is In town to day from the reservation, attending to business matters. Mrs. J. R. Dickson and family re turned from a summer's outing at the seuslde and Portland. Allen H. Reynolds of Walla Walla, Is here today for a short visit, having come over this morning. Mark Heacock, a Jeweler of New berg, Is expected here this evening for a visit with Glenn Wlnslow. George Darveau will leave for Port land tonight on a business trip ex pecting to be absent several days. Mrs. Max llaer and son, who have been visiting In Portland for some weeks past, have returned home. Lee Baker and family returned last evening from Bingham Springs where they huve been staying for some time past. - John H. Lewis, state engineer of Oregon, formerly with the reclanuv tlon corps here, Is In town today from Salem. Misses Mable Cameron and Nona Johnson, who have been visiting in Portland, are expected to return home this evening. Harold Warner returned last even lug from Portland, where he has been visiting the Lewis and Clark fulr dur- iu the past week. Mrs. J. W. Maloney und sons have returned from Newport and Portland where they have been staying dur ing the past month. C. E. Case, a John Day cattleman returned this morning from Portlund, where he has been visiting the fulr, and left on the Ukluh stage. Mrs. Thomas FltzGemld and sous are. expected to arrive tonight from Lehman Springs, where they have been staying during the nummer.- Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Clopton and daughter Sibyl returned this morning from Portland, where they have been staying for the past month or two. Mrs. W. J. Sewell and daughter are expected home this evening from Long Beach and Portland, where they huve been spending the summer. A. J. Goodman returned this morn ing from Portland and Newport, after a month spent at the former place. Mrs. Goodman is still visiting In Port land. Dr. F. H. Dayton, the eye special ist who was here a short time ago, has returned and will have his head quarters at the Hotel St. George for several days. Louis Mueller, a well known far mer of the Helix district Is in the city today on a trading and business trip. Harvest Is practically complete In his locality. Prof. E. B. Conklln, former city superintendent of the Pendleton schools, stopped off here today while on his way home to Ontario from Portland, and has been visiting friends during the day. "Juvenile court" was held this af ternoon by Recorder FltzGernld, and a small boy war that has been raging in one of the east Pendleton neigh borhoods was depicted by a number of ladles of that district. Fred Bran don was the "bad boy" who was be ing complained against by the moth ers of other youngsters with whom h Is said to have had trouble. However the boy was a good witness for him self and won out as far as bis caso was concerned. After listening to all the evidence Judge Fltz Gerald told the boy to go home and advised the mothers of all the gang to buy straps and apply the same where they would do the most sood. Also, he said that he would hold them responsible for nny trou hie that might arise In the future. Voted Entertainer Here, Virgil Alonzo Plnkley of Cleveland, O., a noted entertainer, reader, mon ologlst and syndicate newspaper writ er, Is In the city today conferring with the gymnasium committee of the Commercial association, with a view to giving an entertainment later In the year In this city. He is booked to give an entertainment every night In September, up to the 29th, In Oregon towns, and hopes to make a date In this city.
