J. Deck, of Garden Valley, E. Deck of Brownlee and W. H. Gibson and L M. Seward of Emraett, are engaged In developing a coal mine on the Pa yette river, about six miles north of Garden valley. The mine is situated on the survey made for the Idaho Northern exten sion, and a drift has been run In on a 1 1-inch seem of coal which dips to ward the hill, a distance of 10 feet. At the face of the drift, owing to the steep contour of the hill, a vertical depth of about 15 feet has been at tained, and the coal is of such quali ty as to stand the tests subjected by blacksmiths and gives good satisfac tion. Mr. Deck said it was their In tention to begin work at once on an other vein, known to exist SO feet be low the one they have been exploring and If It did not open up well, they would sink a shaft to cut the differ ent coal seams and learn definitely as to their extent and quality. A good slate roof Is found overlying the coal seams and below Is the usual light-colored fire clay, stained more or less by Iron. Emmett Index. Decision In Important Case. Judge Eakin has handed down an opinion in the case of John X. Doane and W. H. Gleaaon against J. C. and M. Baisley. which has been pending for something over a year and Is con sidered by mining men to be an Im portant matter. The former parties were and are the owners of the Dixie Queen and Buckeye claims on the Rock Creek ridge out from Sumpter. They testified and had witnesses to testify that they had complied with the laws governing assessment This was made necesasry by the fact that the Baileys had filed fractional locations over each of the claims. Judge Eakln's order restores own ership to the plaintiffs and restrains defendants from In any way Interfer ing with or occupying the proper ties, which are considered quite val uable. Baker City Herald. Quarreling Over Iiocation, Xt tn the Kootenai county divis ion fight Interest in the establishing of a new state school of mines Is at tracting the most attention. The friends of the University of Idaho are determined to have It established in connection with that institution and are putting up a strong fight. The citizens of Hailey are In favor of Fuld's bill which locates it at Hailey and have a strong fore of represen tative citizens from Blaine county here advocating Its passage. Such men as Major Fred R. Reed, Irvln E. Rockwell and a host of others are putting In some strong licks tor their town. Said one of Chicago's ' most emi nent physicians last winter: ' Hot a medicine Is known that will dp on particle of good in pneumonia,' and ths sooner we resume the search for one. the better for ourselves and the people." But be must add: failure must always meet the reaearah for a medicine, for the cause lies beyond medicine. Medical text-book aay the stata in pneumonia is a filling of the lung tissue with blood - and ; serum which has exuded from the weaken ed and dilated blood vessela. The osteopath goea further and finds that these blood vessela ar- weakened by a loss of nerve force which is cut off by pressure on the vaso-motor nerves to the lungs. . The cure depends on tbe removal of this pressure. Thus It is seen why medicine must fail. The Osteopath finds this pressure to be from slightly displaced 'vertebrae and ribs. Correct tbese and the cure speedily follows, as was demonstrat ed the past week in our city on a ease which the medical doctor gave up and the Osteopath cured. For particulars, call on Drs.
