OWL TEA HOUSE II II l I It I SPECIAL EXHIBIT SHOULD BE BACKED BY SUITABLE LITERATURE. This Plan Is Advocated by Henry Bucey, Who Has Witnessed Its Great Effectiveness in Other Places Can Be Used to Divert the At tention of Easterners to Umatilla County Daring tlie Coming Season. Henry Bucey of Tacoma, who Is well known to all the older residents of Pendleton, is in the city for a few days visiting acquaintances. Mr. Bu cey practiced law here for a number of years in early days, and was a sealous worker for the city while here. Before coming here to practice he and W. J. Furnish were room mates in Portland, where the former was then reading law and the latter attending business college. In Mr. Bucey's opinion there is no section of the country in which pros perity is now so evident and money so plentiful as in the eastern parts of Oregon and Washington. He is also of the belief that Eastern Ore gon will receive quite an increase in population from the homeseekers that will pour Into the Northwest during the coming summer. In speaking of this and of Pendleton's duty in the matter, he said; "I do not believe in booms, and do not think they generally result in solid good to a community. It is the sure and steady growth that develops a country. However, there will doubtless be many well-to-do people out from the East this yeur seeking locations as farmers and also In other lines, and to these people Uma tilla county should be properly explained." A good exhibit of the county placed at the depot or In some other place, together with a suitable booklet giv ing information of the county, would be of valuable service in Mr. Bucey's Judgment. In favor of this he told jif the benefit that has come to Ta coma through the manufacturers' ex hibit that is maintained there. "Tacoma." he Mid, "is a city of electrical manufacturing, By means of an abundant electric', supply it is possible to conduct an Immense man-..airactu-.ng business there without either smoke or steam. To properly answer inquiries concerning the vari ous Industries, an exhibit is main tained and a man employed to give his entire time to the work of ex plaining it and handling the corres pondence. A booklet has also been Issued, and when inquiries are receiv ed a copy Is sent to the interested party, and he is thus supplied with abundant information of the city and Its Industries."
