Andreas Bard, the brilliant pulpit orator and rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church of Walla Walla, bas written a scathing rebuke on Gover nor Mead declaration that any pro fessor in the State University of Washington found guilty of discussing socialism will be discharged without Tereinony. Berkeley, who accompanied Judge Fee to Washing ton. D. C. which says: "Fullest investigation proves con clusively that Eastern Oregonlans go ing to St. Louis did not all sleep with their boots on. Nail marks are found only in one upper berth. Report that the president had ordered the federal grand Jury to investigate proves to be unfounded. "The porter said of Judge Fee this morning: "That Pendleton gem-man surely all right. He eben had twenty dollar piece, in his boots, and slept wtf hi. boots on.' It is highly probable that no ar rests will follow the shooting of Ever ett Owen, who was wounded in the left leg by an irate farmer at Bam hart Station, a few nights ago. The district attorney', office has been In vestigating the case. The wounded man admitted to a deputy prosecuting attorney that it was about 1 o'clock In the morning when he approached the farm house where he met with reverse, in the shape of a shotgun. "I knocked re peatedly." said Owen, "and when no one answered my knock I opened the door and stepped Inside. It was then that the farmer seized his gun. ran me away from the house and shot me." King, one of the four men who escaped from tbe city Jail last week by tunneling beneath tbe con crete floor, was arrested at La Grande last night by City Marsha L. Keyburn. Sheriff T. D. Taylor brought the prisoner back to Pendle ton this morning, and be is now In the county Jail. King Is charged with attempted burglary. He was arrested by a po liceman Just as he waa In the act of entering Jethro Hardwick's pawn shop. Two of the prisoners who es caped with King are still at liberty. They are George Kirk wood and Geo.
