(Editor East Oregonian) The North Coast Limit ed, a train made up of Northern and Canadian Pacific couches, leaves Se attle at 10 o'clock every morning and makes Its way northward to the Cana dian boundary. The country passed through is mostly timbered, with numerous lakes. Some of them very beautiful. to break the monotony of the view. Sawmills and lumber camps, little, old railroads, leading buck into the woods to bring the logs down to the lakes. Sometimes a 10 or 12 -horse team, with Its big load of logs, and then again, a chute built of timbers. and stretching back Into the hills, on which the logs are placed, and make their own way down Its slippery grade to the lake, and thence to the mill all these have their part In the rapid ly-shifting panorama and all speak of the principal industry of this section of country: to Mexico. Russia, China, Japan, every quarter of the globe. where building material is wanted, the finished products of these mills and forests find their way. Stanley Park circled by the waters of Buzzard Inlet and English Bay is Vancouver's playground, and a handsome playground it Is big trees, pleasant drives, a lake of 16 acres within Its borders. Across the waters of the Straits of Georgia Vancouver Island looming up in the distance and to the eastward the snowy summits of the coast range, natural attractions all of them, the artificial will perhups come later, but as yet this Is a young city and has not apparently had much money to spend on parks. But to the landsman, perhaps, the most Interesting place Is the wharves and waterfront, of which Vuncouver has one mile. The empress of Japan, a fine looking C. P. R. boat, Just in from the Orient. Is discharging a car go of Asiatic freight. A number of other ships from various parts of the world are receiving or discharging cargoes, or being repaired after their long voyage across the ocean. There are regular sailings for Sun Francisco. China and Japan, Australlu and India, Fiji and Alaska; or. In fact, almost any point of the com puss to which the traveler wishes to wend his way. Big warehouses, filled to over flowing with the varied products of different parts of the world, until the bewildered spectator looking at the comparatively small town says, "who is coins to use all this stuff?" Of course, the answer to this riddle Is the trans-continental highway which here finds Its way to deep water and dis tributes these supplies over a big sec tion of country. Vancouver has quite an Asiatic pop ulation of Chinese and Japs, but Is In clined to view her share of the "yel low peril" philosophically.
