GOVERNMENT BUTS LINOTYPES. Will Set the Government Record With Typesetting Machines. The type for the Congressional Rec ord, the daily report of the two houses, is now. for the first time, be ing set by typesetting machines, which were introduced into the de partment printing office last summer. It is generally conceded that the new system has resulted in an im provement in the appearance of the Record, due to wider spacing between the words, which gives the pages a cleaner appearance. Typesetting machines were approv ed by the International Typographical Union years ago. but the political "pull" of the government printers has until now resulted in keeping them out of the big government print shop. Their introduction will cut down the force of compositors considerably.
