Cortelyou as head t.i' the national postal service, ays n '.' ishington dispatch. The loiiner secretary to presidents Is to undertake the herculanean task of a complete reorganization of the postal department. The magnitude of the" undertaking may be partially realized when It Is recalled that the annual expenditures of the department were, lust year, lf2. 362.116.70. The service em bodies 27.138 rural delivery routes serving 12.000,000 people; this being merely a recently organized adjunct to the great postal organization han dling and delivering mall to the cen ters of population. This mamoth organization Is run ning largely on a system which was devised for It when it was a very i small affair. During the past 75 years many of the methods have been out grown, and are Ineffectual or expens ive. Mr. Cortelyou proposes to put the postal service on a business basis. From top to bottom it will be ev-j -hauled and rer-.'t anlzed. HOTEL ARRIVALS. Hotel Be George. J. J. Hogan, Portland. F. J. Gardner. Portland. , f. E. Belch, Umatilla. J. Swart and wife, Athena. .
