from Injuries that may prove fatal,
or leave her a cripple for life. The
fall occurred in the darkness, and
the injured woman declares no bar

and contractor.
Miss Miller Is a stranger In Pendle

and obtained work as a domestic
through an employment agency. She

the construction of the sewer sys-
tern here, was a passenger on this j
morning's train for Collfax, Wash.
He will Install a water system there.
The water Is to be brought a distance
of 14 miles, and It Is estimated the
cost will approximate $80,000.
He hns Just completed the putting
In of a water system at Adams, the
cost of which was S8000. Mr. Hhultz
says that Adams now has the best
water system In the county from the
standpoint of purity of the water.
He expects to return in the spring
and Install a water system at Athena.

The Columbia Produce Company
yesterday shipped Into Pendleton for
local consumption two carloads of
lemons, oranges, nuts, figs nnd can
dles, In all 60.000 pounds. One car
contained nothing but oranges. The
shipment was consigned to John B.
Benson, local manager of the company.
Valuable Stallion Hick.
One of A. C. Ruby's Imported -year-old
Percheron stallions, was
taken very sick yesterday with acute
Indigestion, nnd apparently the ani
mal came near dying. Dr. Lloyd, V.
8., was summoned us soon as he could
be found, and the animal is making
a good recovery.
Creditors' Official Meeting.
The creditors of Frank R. Blair,
bankrupt, met before Thomas Fits
Gerald, referee in bankruptcy this
morning and appointed 8. M. Barnes
trustee. Barnes' bonds were fixed at
11600. Blair's Indebtedness amounts
to about (2200. He conducted a store
at Weston.
Charles 8. Mullen, formerly presi
dent of the Northern Pacific, now
president of the New Haven Hart
ford, aspires to go to the United
States senate from Connecticut.
