Charles Sweeny has given $4000 to the building fund of the Y. M. C. A. It Is the largest Individual gift made to the association, and with It the donations reach about $52,000. The committee which Is working for the building of the structure hopes to bring the total up to (75,000. J. P. M. R. at N. and for a year was station agent at Hood River, resigning a year ago on account of 111 health, died at his home at Pullman Friday night of Bright's disease. Charles E. Summers, who is put ting in the new automatic telephone service In San Diego and Los Ange les, Cul., and represents the Empire Construction Company of Toledo, O., has returned to Spokane and has pre pared his application for a telephone franchise for a new system, says the Spokane Press. As exclusively stated in the fress, November 21, Mr. Summers has been floating a company to operate the new system in Spokane, ine appli cation for the franchise will be filed with the city clerk next Monday. In the franchise the new company offers a rate, of . and 12 a montn to subscribers and agrees to put In an automatic system, doing away with the central station operators. The downtown wires are all to be placed underground and through the residence portion of the city the poles are to be pluced in the alleys and the city is given the exclusive use of the top crossarms for fire alarm and po lice natrol wires.
