The l.ewlston Tribune gives the fol
lowing story of a poor Italian of that
city, who has fallen heir to a duke
dom and an estate of $58,000,000 In
his native country:
"I will erect a mansion on Normal
hill and commence Its construction
as soon as my money Is available to
me, said Joseph Rossi yesterday.
"The Wit ha irrigation project I will
consider, but will provide the funds
for the building of the electric roud
from Lewiston to Orangevtlle first."
Mr. Hossl Is the gentleman who Is
soon to come Into possession of an
Italian estate, valued at t58.000.000.
Mr. Rossi spent considerable time
In looking over the city yesterday and
has selected property on Normal hill
which he will endeavor to purchase
as soon as his funds are available.
The owner of the property he does
not know, but he has selected the
location he desires and will commence
negotiations for the purchase as soon
as he Is prepared to talk business.
"1 am now simply waiting the ar
rival of my credit books," said Mr.
Rossi, "but will be ready to commence
with my plans as soon as the neces
sary documents arrive. The building j
of the electric road Is the desire of my
wife and the Investment will be made
to satisfy her wish. We will com
mence the Improvement of the ranch
on Craig mountain on a large scale
before we leave for our visit In Cali
fornia and will have the entire tract
parked and made Into a summer re
sort and home before our return from
Italy. It Is our Intention to stay In
Italy only a short time and will com
plete our business affairs as soon as
possible.
"Mr. Policy and wife will accom
pany us on our trip across the wnters
and we will all be anxious to return
to Lewiston. which will be the center
of our Investments."
The Policy family nre old pioneers
of the Lewiston country, Mr. Polley
having been one of the protectors of
the Anatone fort during the Ne
Perce war. For many yeara the Pol
leys were engaged in the stock busi
ness and have taken their cattle over
all parts of the country. As a result
Mrs. Rossi Is well acquainted. with the
wonderful country to be served by the
proposed road from Lewiston to
Grangevllle. and .naturally prefers to
make her home In the country of her
childhood.
The hills from Lewiston to the
nitter Hoot mountains are all famil
iar to her and she now desires to fur
nlsh the finances for the electric rail
road that will develop the country
that was once the stock range. The
ambition is a most worthy one and
Mr. Rossi has annouirced his Inten
tlon of providing his wife with the
necessary funds with which to bull'
the road.

. Fight Will Be Bitter.
Those who will persist In closing
their ears against the continual rec

of Beall, Miss., has to say: "Last fall
my wife had every symptom of con

failed. Improvement came at once
and four bottles entirely cured her.

Progress, on Hond From Huntington
to Itnllurd.
Baker tity, Dec. 13. J. B. Rowden
of this city, who recently returned
from a business trip to the Seven
Devils country, reports that a force of
men Is -now at work on the grade of
the old Northwest railroad, along
Snake river from Huntington north
toward Ttallard's Landing.
This road was projected Severn
years ago and partially graded, but
tlie company failed, and It has been
In litigation for several years. Some
thing over a year ago the road was
sold on a foreclosure of a mortgage
held by eastern people. The under
standing has been that the grade was
to be finished as far as the Iron Dyke
mine and the roud opened to traffic.
Mr. Howden says the work is pro
gresslng favorably, and at the present
rate It will not be many months before
It Is completed.
The Iron Dyke copper mine and
other , rich properties in the Seven
Devils district are practically worth
less without a railroad. These mines
are in the same fix as the Cornuco
pia mine, as the cost of transporta
tion by team is so great that the ores
though rich, will not pay for mining
and transportation to market: with
the completion of this road down
Hnaka river to Huntington,, one of the
richest copper mining districts In the
United States will be opened.
