GENERAL NEWS.
Rev. John W. Chadwick. of New
Tork, a very eminent Unitarian
preacher and writer. Is dead, aged 5
years.
'Tilde Dave" Taylor, mayor of ,
Athena, is not big to look at. but he Is
big enough to have made a big stir
i
in Athena during the last few months.
He Is a good deal like Daniel, two- ;
thirds grit and the other third back- .
bone. He is mayor of Athena, not
only In name, but In fact. i
Shortly after the recent election he
sent the city marshal. W. J. Gholson.
to the various saloons and notified
them that gambling would have to
stop. They knew Dave and It stopped.
Some of the candy stores and drug '
stores still shake dice for cigars. The
mayor notified them that shaking
dice was as much a form of gambling
as playing a slot machine.
"Oh. you wouldn't arrest us for
shaking dice for cigars, would you.
Iave?" they said. "Just try It once. '
111 give you the maximum penalty,"
said the mayor.
